pointstreak had it wrong...

Westports' first goal was a penalty shot with less than a minute in first.
Canadians tied it up in 2nd period
and with 15 seconds left... Westport got the second Penalty shot goal...
Game ended 2-1... not 2-0.

So, I'd say... believe my friend who was in attendance than the point streak report.

2-1 final.

Should be solid, will be competitive, but room to add players for sure.
A couple have been sent early on but the potential of more exists, will depend on moves the Bears make moving forward.

I noticed Cullen had a great game. Will he continue to play for both Westport and the Bears (currently affiliated with SF)? And what happened with Potter anyway? Picked him up from Wellington yet he didn't see a single minute of ice time (pre-season included).

In fact Potter played in 2 pre-season games for Smith Falls.

I stand corrected. Thanks. He played 61 minutes in 2 games (shutout in his first game but kinda stunk it up in the second). Seems odd that 31 minutes of not great goaltending would mean the end of the line for him in SF. Unless there's something more to it than that?

I think it's better. No Gatineau and teams play other teams that they normally would've never played before.

What is it you see in Spencer ? I have not watched him play this year so interested what put him on this list. As a career Tier2/3 player and a slow start on the score sheet I am curious as to what you see.

thanks for asking... and an opinion is all it is...

I saw him play CDHL this summer and the best way to describe him is a big power forward. He had the ability to control the play... and not afraid to get his nose dirty when needed. I was shocked to see he was released by them, but than, Kanata can easily fall into 'head-scratching area's' with many decisions they make.
Anyway... why I feel Spencer is worthy of watch... is he's 16 playing JrB and has all the on-ice tools to be a productive player... what happens off the ice, well whispers are whispers... I care only about on-ice.

My opinion is just that... an opinion... best for others to make their own decisions, but I think he's worth keeping an eye on.

Thanks. Have not heard any whispers, just looking at career stats and didn't see much potential but if he pans out, great for them.

What is going on with this new CCHL2? What was once a hot commodity, there seems to be very few 16 year old players this year. Every team gets 2 cards a year, so there should be 32 cards out there and only a handful of 16 year signed (7?). I guess the rumors that Tier 1 team threatening the younger players, that if they play Tier2 , they can forget playing in their Tier1 organization is true. Practically forcing these players to play in the MONEY making glorified Juvenile league is a joke. The scouts that make it out to these U18 games are there to look at the 15 year old players only. How can this program be good for any 16 or 17 year olds? I do have to say that the scheduling of games, practices and off ice at the U18 level is much better and less time consuming for everyone. It’s just sad to see some top end 16 year players that could play in the Tier2 league chose, SORRY were mandated to play U18 to fill the fill TIER1 teams pockets.

I don't think he had the option... you might better ask Kanata, since they released him from AAA, as I hear, they did with another player who's now playing CCHL2...

Not good enough to play AAA, but good enough to play CCHL2?:sarcasm:

Bernie Pimm is one of the best coaches in the U18 league. If he released him it was for good reasons, no politics that's for sure.

you probably know better than I...
I just find it humorous, 2 players released from Kanata, now playing JrB....

[edit] I thought Derek Miller was the head coach of Kanata AAA and Bernie Pimm his assistant:confused:

Even more interesting is a rumour that Spencer has signed with Carleton Place and was seen practicing with them Tuesday.

Rumour is he received one of their 16 cards and was sent to Athens to develop. Didn't they do that with Owen Grant last year? He was definitely on the ice at practice in CP Tuesday night with jr a. There was also another rumour out there that the Kanata u18 coaches were told to let him go...not their choice. But then there was also a rumour that he was out with a concussion....who knows which rumours are true and which are false, there are so many

If I was a betting man, I'd say this has more substance than the latter...

I don't think Grant was sent there to develop. He made the Canadians and then suffered a bad concussion. If I recall, it was not even hockey related but honestly the details are foggy. He went to Athens later to rehab.

Good for Spencer if he has a chance on CP. That would be great to see them bump their local talent up to 25% next year.
