According to Lebrun, Provorov will be the #1 rental Dman on the market this trade deadline and he reports that the price tag for Provorov will be at least a 1st round pick return.

Lebrun also says that a few teams have already called CBJ but CBJ has told those teams they are not quite ready to trade Provorov yet.

Cap Hit is 4.725 as LA is eating over 2mil as part of the 3 way trade earlier.

Averaging almost 24min of ice time and has 6 pts n 19 games.

Where does he land??

Can CBJ fans give a more detailed summary of how he has played thus far and his strengths and weakness. is he a top pair? top 4? How does he do on PK? Defensive? 2way?

I could be wrong. But I thought when the Jackets played Boston the other night someone on the broadcast mentioned he was healthy scratched the game before?

Good luck getting a first for healthy scratches in Columbus.

Suffice to say he’s been much better in Columbus this year than he had been to end his Philly tenure. A simplified, lower ceiling games but can still log big minutes and can play both sides.

His expiring contract works in Columbus’ favor in terms of extracting value by really opening up the potential market. If he’s retained, there aren’t going to be many reasonable options out there with as little contractual commitment and as much usage potential to add at the deadline as Provorov.

People forget GMs go crazy at the deadline. Provorov has his warts and severely underperformed his early career promise but he’s going to be more valuable to a contender than a lot of guys who have been dealt for 1sts. 24 minute per night defenseman who are in their athletic primes and who you don’t owe a huge future bill too aren’t a readily available commodity.

The tricky thing about Provorov is that he's needy when it comes to his partners. He works really well with some but not others, and G-d only knows what the criteria are for someone being Provorov Compatible(tm). Provorov-Severson has not exactly covered itself in glory as a pairing, but Provorov-Fabbro looked good when it was tried, and Werenski-Provorov (yes, he was playing on his off-hand side) has looked really shockingly capable. It's not strictly about minutes, either, so that theory doesn't hold (Provorov-Fabbro was very definitely a second pairing).

When he's with an Acceptable Partner, his defense is acceptably good. He does his part and he can avoid pinching at grotequely stupid times. His offense isn't a standout thing but he contributes here and there. When he isn't with an Acceptable Partner... I'm tempted to say "everything goes to hell" but that's an exaggeration. Still, you start to see why so many people got so frustrated with him when that happens. It's like he can figure out how some guys will play but not others, and so long as he's with someone he understands he's a major credit to the blueline, but take that away and suddenly he's horribly lost.

I guess you could think of it as him being more dependent on accurately predicting what his teammates will do for given situations rather than accurately reading and reacting the game as it goes - Advance Prep Only rather than On The Fly Capable - which obivously would limit his deployment options a great deal. I dunno if that's what's actually going on with him, but that's the impression I'm left with.

So, yeah. If you've got the Right Guy to play alongside him, he's well worth a 1st and possibly more. But the puzzle to figure out whether or not you have that Right Guy is one that is currently unsolved. And G-d forbid your Right Guy get injured or something...

Personally I would keep and re - sign him, I like his durability and solid defensive play. His offense has been very underwhelming, basically on par with Gavrikov
Like a Seth Jones in CHI type of deal? What does that achieve?

What are they waiting for? They're in 7th place

Maybe for someone else to set the market.

They probably dont have a 1st round offer for him right now which is why they havent traded him yet.

Lets not forget Tanev didnt get a 1st last year..... The Dmen that returned a 1st had more offensive pop like Sean Walker and Noah Hanifin.

Will be interesting to see if Prov can get a 1st.

Provorov would make good sense for NYR. He’s not putting up big points (though neither is CBJ) but he can skate and move the puck reasonably well and is solid defensively. Lindgren would have to go the other way or be moved in another deal. Like Columbus, he’d have a couple Russian buddies in NY and he’s honestly probably one of the better fits for a top-4 spot on a team that needs a top 4 LHD.

I frankly think whether or not that'd work for us would be heavily dependent on whether or not Lindgren-Severson can be expected to be a good functional pairing. (Either that or we dodge the whole question and move on from Severson, but that's much easier said than done.)

You could google that and fact check. It would take the same amount of time to type "provorov game log" into google as typing out "I could be wrong but" in an HF post.

But here, I'll do it for you. He hasn't been scratched this season, as his game log shows he played every game, including the one before a Boston game.

Thanks for the info!

Canucks have been rumored to be interested in Provorov and they would have interesting partners he can possibly play with.

How does he play on his offside Right Side?

I can see the Canucks maybe pairing him with Hronek and allowing Hughes to be paired with Myers and bumping Soucy down to 3rd pairing. Hronek is one of the best 2way Dmen imo and has really helped Hughes reach Norris level. He might be a good pairing with Prov.

Hughes-Myers
Provorov- Hronek
Soucy- Branstrpm/Desharnais/Forbort

Canucks also expecting to get Willander once Boston U's season is done in Spring.

Werenski was able to occasionally go Rover Mode during games when they were paired together and Provorov was backing him up. He defies easy categorization in that regard.

Could be. Playing him on his offhand with Hughes might also work, although that's mostly based on the guess of "Hughes is a top-pairing LHD who contributes to the offense and so is Werenski so Hey Who Knows Maybe It Works" (I have not seen nearly enough of Hughes to actually look at play styles very well ;) ). Also, our sample sizes for seeing this level of competence out of him are relatively small, so... :dunno:

I'll admit that my motivation for trading him is less about getting the 1st back and more about making the confusing thing go away before it hurts my brain more. :D

Myers is like the only player who has made QH look average. Myers’ terrible decision making forces QH into physical battles, the one thing he’s worst at.

Canucks would leave the top pair along and simply see if Provorov - Soucy or Provorov - Myers works.
