I don't really see the backwards motion.

The puck can't come back towards center ice, which was why Brunner's goal was reviewed when we lost to Detroit (that one time).

Brunner's goal had to be reviewed because he protected the puck and might have pulled it back, but when someone essentially stops in front of the net to bring the puck back around, it's just legal?

With all the talk about the OTT player's spin-o-rama, i'm surprised you guys aren't up to date on SO rules.

In case you were wondering.

NHL Rule 24.2 (for penalty shots - which also applies to the shootout) states:

"The spin-o-rama type move where the player completes a 360° turn as he approaches the goal, shall be permitted as this involves continuous motion."

It's all good after I watched it again. At first glance I though he came to a stop. Having said that, I pay not attention to what is going on in Ottawa.

In all honesty, that's a lame ass goal even if we had scored it. Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's not lame.

that was not a legal shot.

oh well...

That spin move has been done dozens of times and its never disallowed, as long as the player doesn't pin the goalie behind him. The shooter also is supposed to maintain continuous motion, but as long as he doesn't stop for more than a split second in practice its permitted.

Sure, you could make that argument.

But I mean, the league put in the spin-o-rama rule to make it entertaining. I doubt they're going to revert on that decision any time soon.

Oh well, GG guys.

Yeah, easy for you to handle - let's see you say these words with your team on the wrong end of things.

I'm not alone when I say the SO isn't entertaining to begin with. The spin-o-rama even less so. I hope no Jacket ever pulls that in a SO.

To determine this game with a SO is just lame. But we're obsessed that someone "has to win".

Leave ties in soccer.

And pro football? I'll leave it alone when they get rid of 2 points for a SO win and come up with a better point system.

Having said that, no playoff spot should ever be decided by a SO game. I hate this debate, but this is a team game. Games decided by a SO is offensive to that concept.

Few fans and even less of the players know about ties in the NFL

I disagree. SO is a game to decide the game, nothing wrong with that. I also didn't notice anyone wanting to ban shootouts after RyJo and Matty's sick moves the other night.

If there is one alternative I might want to try, its doing 4 on 4 for a few minutes, followed by 3 on 3, to 2 on 2, to 1 on 1, to a shootout.

I agree. Flip a freaking coin for all I care for that last point. Shoot outs are stupid, entertaining, but stupid. As a marketing guy, I bet the shoot out to break the tie idea came out of the marketing department. It screams money over sport.

yes. motion towards the net

Raymond stopped dead, there was not continuous motion, nor was it continuous toward the net. Oh, well, fun game, anyway. Bob was great.

Leave it a tie, or play until the first score. I think we'll get back to that in the next decade or so once TV revenue is replaced by other media.

If you want to get cute play 3 on 3, no subs last man standing style.

I'm not exactly for the shootout, but I'm more for them than ties. I never liked the ties, but it seems like games hardly ever end in the actual OT. Maybe five minutes just isn't enough time.
