GDT: CBJ @ Toronto...Dare I say, this is one is critical?!?

Vornokov isn't a first line player and he's not going to be one. If he's on the top line beginning next season it will be (another) long season for the CBJ

EVERYONE is the key (and correct) word in that sentence. That extends to the HC as well.
We've seen it time and time again with this franchise. We can overachieve when there are no expectations. But as soon as there are expectations, we crumble.
And I'd like to think DW is taking notice on who and handle it and who can't. Z has been overworked all season and hit a wall after not getting the 4 Nations break. The rest of the D is terrible. Voronkov han't been productive in over a month. Johnson has gotten a few points in recent games but has otherwise been invisible for a month. The 3rd and 4th lines are a trainwreck other than Olivier.

They are who we thought they were coming into the season.

Perhaps let Chinny play tomorrow?

Can’t get worse, right ?

Right ?
How is his defending since returning?

We know he can shoot but guys need to play in the system. AND provide offense.

It's just unfathomable that this team who put up so many goals up through the outdoor game just can't anymore.

Say what you want but getting shut out 5 times in 14 games without being shut out all season ain't an Elvis problem.

Voronkov wears down as the season goes on. He did it last year. He has 1 point in the last 12 games.
Big Boss looking for Big Money on his next contract is taking a hit for not producing down the stretch.

He'll get a nice pay bump but DW should also consider if he's a part of this team to get us where we want to be. Is his conditioning/productivity fixable? This can't happen a 3rd season in a row. He's an extremely valuable player is he can stop fading down the stretch.

Majority of folks seem overly focused on placing all of the blame on Elvis. Not to say he doesn't deserve a share of it.
Elvis has been bad overall since the Stadium Series and especially the past 5+ games. But this team has been shut out 5 times in 14 games. One of those games, Elvis had a shutout through regulation. Another one he allowed 2 goals on 35 shots (.943 save percentage). For as bad as Elvis has been recently, there’s three points left on the board right there that could’ve been had with just minimal/adequate offense.

One of the 5 shutouts, Tarasov was in net and had a .850 save percentage. They also scored only one goal in a home game that Jet started. With “league average” offense in the Jet game, there’s 2 more points (5 lost points total), and then we’re a point out with a game in hand.

And if you go back through the recent stretch, I don’t think there are many games lost that would’ve been wins with “league average” goaltending. Maybe the 5-3 NJ loss and the 6-3 Pitt loss? (I don’t remember exactly how they played out.) Even if you count those as 4 lost points, the offense has still been responsible for 5 lost points over the stretch. As poorly as Elvis played in the Nashville and Vancouver games, we still won them. Last night he played poorly, but we were shut out again. There are no 6-5 or 5-4 losses during this stretch, but there is a 1-0 OT loss, a 3-0 loss (that was 2-0 before an ENG), a 2-1 loss…

It was a fun ride early in his career, but the past 3+ seasons have I think sealed his offseason fate, rightfully so after being given one final chance with a new HC/FO and a reduced buyout hit compared to last summer. But this team also outplayed their overall talent basically through Stadium Series, and is now running out of fumes and heading back to the mean. There are a fair amount of holes on this roster, I don’t think it’s fair to say “league average goaltending!” is the only fix.

we are now 8-10-1 with boone in the lineup. 17 points out of a possible 38.

Yes I'm sure it is the fault of the guy who has 18 pts in those 19 games and is not a negative plus/minus player in that span. With this type of brilliant analysis you might as well blame Monahan for our latest string of losses.

Yep, that’s the record. But you bringing it up means you believe there’s a causal relationship and would ask for the specifics that lead you to infer Boone is the cause.
I was just curious as adding Jenner to the lineup impacts line combo and chemistry the team has. He can do well, but how does everyone else do with their new teammates (for instance I really think he hurt KJ and Fantilli with his style of play - they have better chemistry now). Seems like it doesn’t impact the record though.

Not the same, but Laine could be doing well, while the team was doing bad. No sense in looking into it, if the record is about the same.

As I posted above, seems like if Werenski is not playing at his Norris level, this is the result.

As I have said before, I think Jenner is a better hockey player than probably most people on this board, but I think he is a worse leader than most on this board. There is just something off with the team when he is around. Maybe he tries to do to much as a leader. Maybe he just isn’t a leader. Maybe he leads in a way that makes others less effective. I think there are a lot of reasons the team fell off at the end of the season, but I also think that it is more than a coincidence that the team got worse when Boone returned.

PS: I have Boone on my fantasy team.

Its odd that you can admit to when we have a shortage of information (with respect to Lindstrom) but that is of little concern to you when talking about Boone's leadership. He's scored some big goals to get us back in games in the last month and the players speak well of him as a leader and that's all we know. And he's not the type of loudmouth to suck the oxygen out of the room (like JT Miller) and prevent leaders like Z or Ollie from speaking up. Perhaps the players in the room will want a different guy wearing the C at some point but we don't have insight into that.
