Gregory Campbell's two-year deal with #CBJ carries a $1.5M AAV.

That 3rd year for Letestu must've been the dealbreaker.

Campbell is a warrior, as long as your coach doesn't decide to play him for 15 mins a night like Julien did you'll enjoy his contribution to the penalty kill and 4th line.

Also not afraid to ever drop his gloves even if he knows he won't win the fight, ultimate team mate.

Appreciate it, sounds like he will fit in.

I am... not impressed. Would have vastly preferred Arcobello - who signed for even less in Toronto.

EDIT: Arcobello:

Karlsson and Chaput must be loving life right about now... fine with the move but definitely thought one of those two would have been capable.

Who cares about the advanced stats. It's a 4th liner. Does he win draws, hit, and chip in a point or two sometimes? Seems fine to me.

See its this kind of crap that pisses me off about Jarmo. One minute I think he is doing a great job then wham-he does something like this that makes nf(sense).

I am with Jarmo on this. I would not have given Letestu 3 years either. This deal for Campbell is probably exactly what he was offering Letestu.

Mark took the deal that was better for him and his family, end of story.

We lost mark Letestu, he was our 4th line center.

We signed Gregory Campbell. He is a 4th line center

How does this not make sense?

The reason why one should care is because that indicates whether or not the guy can actually do the job of a fourth-liner - to buy time for others to rest while disrupting the opposition's ability to capitalize. The advanced stats suggest that Campbell is... not entirely ideal in that regard.

The ludicrously poor Shots Against/60 but fairly decent Goals Against/60 suggest that he's actually a pretty good shot blocker (or, IOW, that Fenwick has a point  ). But I feel like we could have had so much better, possibly even for less money. :shakehead

Hell, maybe we could have him as the #3G if (G-d forbid) Bob and CMac both get injured in the same game.

Letestu was a UFA. He could have very easily accept 1.6 x 3 from Edmonton when he was asking 2m x 3 or more from Columbus. You can't really compare the signings if you don't have inside knowledge about the negotiations. Not saying that's what happened, but being closer to home and playing with McJesus might have swayed things.

Anyways, we don't really need a 4th line that can score a whole lot like Letestu's did. We need 4th liners that can hit and play on the PK. Saad, Johansen, Foligno, Jenner, Dubinsky, Atkinson, Hartnell, Wennberg, etc.. they can handle the scoring.
