In my case it has nothing to do with it. I just don't understand not going one extra year for Letestu who has been a valuable player for us. That's it in a nut shell. I think we lost a better player for one year. Hopefully Campbell turns out great at which point I'll acknowledge it.

It's a fair argument. I would rather have Letestu too.

So last year, they let Mackenzie leave and didn't find a replacement. Gave Chaput a shot and it didn't work out. People complained. This year, they let Letestu leave. They find a replacement but then some people complain for not allowing Chaput or Karlsson battle it out for the 4th line center position.:dunno:

The issue isn't that they found a replacement; the issue is they let a good player leave for a dumb reason, imo. They sign him, they don't need a replacement.

We just lost two of our leading penalty killers in the last two days. I understand the want to add Campbell.

We also added a top notch PKer in Saad. I'm not to worried.

Logic just keep escaping every time you leave the player's best out of the speculation... MacKenzie and Letestu both got very good deals, in locations they likely preferred to sign. The tale of the two UFAs. I personally don't believe either one's agent at least wouldn't recognize that this is your chance if you want the maximum deal.

Would either MacKenzie or Letestu then play almost 59 play-off games in a contending team...

Bruins fan here. Love Campbell, will always love him, will always give you an honest effort, stands up for teammates, never takes a shift or night off.

But man, he was an abomination last year. At no point did he look like an NHL player. He killed us. Offensive zone faceoffs immediately ended up in our zone. Julien used him like he was a good player when he was horrible, so maybe less usage and spot-picking will help.

Honestly, I'm stunned he got a two year deal. I thought a camp invite would be the extent of it.

So I am happy for him, but boy, I'd be nervous.

Sorry for the bad report, but he will never disappoint with effort.

Letestu wanted to be here...now whether that changed when it became apparent he didn't automatically have a spot...i don't know...but he and his wife wanted to be in columbus...

They seemingly also wanted very much to be in Edmonton, Alberta.

Like the Saad deal it's a business which you can't bend over to your will without choosing to overpay. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. I would understand the constant moaning in times like these if the numbers to be offered at least made sense but you guys would also like to get them to stay by taking discount deals... which is almost insulting for the players who should be highly sought after UFAs.

I just figure there were - and still are - better replacements available. That's all.

If he plays well, then it's all well and good. If he plays poorly (and so far all we're hearing from Bruins fans makes him sound like Boll 2.0 except even worse at fighting)... to heck with Letestu/DMac comparisons, I'll be kvetching about Arcobello and Goc. :)

I really like the signing. We have been searching for that hard to play against 4th line, like the one we had with DMac. I don't understand the calls for Chaput or Karlsson to be the 4th line center. Chaput was completely invective as a 4th line center and it really hurt our identity as a team, he has zero offensive skill, doesn't hit, doesn't fight, isn't great on the draw and doesn't kill penalties. Karlsson is NOT a 4th line player, let him develop in Cleveland and MAYBE he becomes a third line player, nothing more will come of him.

Now Letestu, am I the only one that remembers him going 25 or 30 games without a goal to start the season?? It was almost a joke in the room when he finally got a goal. He's incredibly slow, doesn't hit, doesn't fight, is ok on the draw, ok on PK-we have plenty of these, ok on shootouts- we are good there too. He's a good solid person that I would want my future daughter to marry, but he's NOT a 4th line center. He's a third line center. Period. I hope he blows up in Edmonton and they slap the C on his chest, have at it. But I was never keen on signing him again to play on the 4th line and we are loaded in the top 9.

Campbell played a shift with a broken leg for pete sakes! That's the kind of heart and soul you win cups with, he's got plenty left in the tank, he will hit, agitate, fight, kill penalties and chip in as many goals as Letestu would have in a 4th line role.

So CBJWennberg, count me in as the one person that LOVES this move and would take Campbell over Letestu every day of the week to be the 4th line center.

ca5150, I would have been disappointed if you didn't love the signing of Campbell! I disagree with your position here, but love your consistency.

Time will tell my friend! We are building a miserable team to play against, to quote the guys on NHL Network after the signing, and you can never have too many guys like this to compliment your stars. Absolutely nobody was scared to play Letestu, the 4th line is supposed to bring the hurt and we have sorely missed that since DMac and Comeau left. I would love to see a Calvert, Campbell and Boll line, provided Boll has learned to skate better this summer. I've had his back over the years, but he doesn't get a pass from me if he doesn't come to camp markedly improved.

I've always been a huge Boll supporter, but last year it seemed like he committed some very silly penalties. Turnovers were a glaring problem as well, IIRC. He's also near or at the end of his fighting prime, right? Undersized and almost 30? Maybe someone that knows a little more could set me straight on that.

Without being a puck expert I'd say Jarmo is going to get a higher off-season grade from us this year. Hopefully the injury situation isn't so ridiculous and the fourth line is actually playing on the fourth line. Boll can contribute seven minutes a night with fewer minors, keep the headhunters honest, and maybe chip in ten points. That, to me, would make that $1.8 easier to swallow.

I will say this about his fighting ability, I actually think he's more effective now(last season) than a lot of seasons, he only lost 1 fight, if you look at his record on hockeyfights.com. I think he suffered greatly from having ineffective linemates last year, he's never going to be the go-to guy on the 4th line, but he has been effective when put with skilled guys like DMac, Calvert, Comeau, etc. So I think if he got faster in the off season and had solid linemates like Calvert and Campbell, we could have a solid crash bang 4th line again. We'll see in September if he put in the work.

Adding a bit more "mean" to this roster isn't a bad thing.

Hartnell, Foligno, Dubinski, Calvert and Jenner all play with a bit of an edge. I believe Clarkson does as well. Letestu really didn't bring that to the plate. May as well have a fourth line center who's a bit testy. Very bad pun, I know. It would be odd having a Lady Byng candidate centering one's fourth line with all the spice on the upper lines.

Acquisition bodes very poorly for Boll. I'll project him dressing 35 games tops.

"It honestly reminds me of what Boston was shaping when I got there (in 2010). It was a big, heavy team that nobody pushed around."

Welcome to Jackets, Gregory! This guy is real macho ( not next sweety, speedy, softy F)

Talk about a gutty, all character guy in Gregory Campbell. Excellent PKer and has serious leadership qualities. He'll fit in well. (As long as your coach doesn't play him 15 minutes a night like Julien).

Hopefully he doesn't drop the gloves too much, even though he's a willing combatant, he gets fed time after time. Lost a step in terms of speed too. Always liked him, I think he'll really embrace your culture. All in all, not a bad signing.

I could see him getting traded. We've got some sandpaper developing in the pipeline too.

Listen, if the worst thing that happened to the CBJ this off-season is the "downgrade" from Letetsu to Campbell......that's not a bad off-season to me

Id take Letestu 100 times out of 100 but if the team wants to make it 4th line more of an energy line and Pkers then so be it. It would be kind of nice to have a pure energy line plus guys who play the PK leaving the offensive guys to play offense as much as possible

That's the trouble. I don't think Campbell or Boll have much energy. Bourque only when he's trying to keep a job. Only Calvert has energy.

And I don't care if Boll is a nice human being or any of that crap. If he or Campbell aren't fast enough to catch up to guys so that they can actually use their strength, then we don't have much use for their toughness.

I haven't seen Campbell enough to judge, but that's a pretty unfair statement with Boll. I've never faulted Boll for his effort or heart. He's ability, however.... Yeah, he's dropping fast on the depth chart and he knows it. It was communicated to him.
