.@russianmachine article states that Erat wants to "try his luck with a stronger team that has a shot at the Stanley Cup."

So then, he's headed for one of the usual suspects. I'll give it the old Barry Melrose here:

Boston, NY Rangers, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, or San Jose.

And rumor mill ..... GO!

So, in other words, he's saying the Caps don't have that much of a shot. What a guy. Probably not his words, I hope.

If this is his thinking, I wonder if he realizes the conundrum that if he can't find a spot to play in on the Caps he's probably even less likely to fit into a cup contender. :shakehead

1. He's a veteran scorer.
2. He's Czech. Maybe he can wear #22.
3. He's the biggest Jacket killer in the league. We can't beat him so we should join him.

Downside is that he makes $4.3 million or so. And we'd have to swing a trade inside our division.

No thanks. We already have enough guys who make too much.

Sounds like an Umberger trade to me. But surprisingly I wouldn't even trade Umberger for him. Erat has skill but he's another Gaborik, more skill then most of our team but doesn't fit our teams in the other area's

Agreed. That is why getting Horton was good. He adds more skill, but can play more like the way we play.

Erat's really put the Caps in a bind. I could see them forced to take a bad contract in return. Perhaps Erat for Booth.

Big time.

Any interest in paying the (likely) price that it will take to get him? No.

Considering the way that the ex-Thrashers have handled players since the move, the asking price for Kane is either 27 first-rounders and a 50% ownership stake in the Jackets....or a roast Christmas goose and a foot massage from a man named Li.

Knowing what they asked for Bogosian a couple of years ago when he was "on the block;" there's no way they give up Kane for anything less than a high quality, young roster player, and a first round pick.

And then they let Burmistrov walk without any attempt to do much of anything about it.

It's like what my father always said about a political party: "They'll never actually apply logic and common sense to solve an issue, because they'd rather have the issue and play the martyr every election cycle."

I'd give the 1st and if the young roster guy was one of the D-men not named Murray or a F named Anisimov or Foligno I'd do it.

I said "high quality"

In all seriousness, I would venture to guess that we would be forced to pay one of the defensemen (Erixon, Savard, Murray all being probably asked for) and a first round pick. If it's Erixon or Savard, we would probably have to include another piece as well - if we could persuade them to do it. If it's just, say, Erixon and a first, then I think it's a no brainer.
