there's no good argument for taking fantilli away from 10 and 86 imo.

he has more points in the last 20 games (monahan injury) than he did in the previous 40, and is putting up legitimate 1C numbers. there's no good reason to bump him down and put him with linemates that he hasn't played well with.

monahan with two of jenner/johnson/chinakhov seems to be a far better solution here. much easier to cobble together a plus-value second line around monahan than it is to hope that fantilli can carry new linemates. no reason to rock the boat here.

the bonus to that approach is that if your second line has both monahan and jenner on it, that can be deployed as a shutdown line, which frees up a third line (which presumably has sillinger centering it) to get some sheltered minutes.

They were the best line in the league with Monahan at center. That's a pretty damn good argument for putting them back together!

I think there are clearly arguments on both sides of the issue.

Ultimately I think it's worth giving Fantilli a look with some new linemates to see if his confidence carries over. Chinakhov seems like an ideal fit for rush scoring. We can adjust later if Fantilli is struggling. I wouldn't rule out a Fantilli - Monahan - Marchenko unit at some point - though obviously that leaves out Voronkov. I'd be curious to see Voronkov centering Chinakhov again but the coaches are not going there.

I maybe wouldn’t put Monahan back with the Russians right away (so he can get his wind and not to hold back the other two at the start) but I would certainly go back to Monahan between them when he got up to speed.

Harris gone and Christiansen sits seems like the easy answer
Harris can be sent to the AHL maximum until March 6. The same goes for J. Johnson and Christiansen. So if that doesn't happen, Mateychuk will likely be sent to Cleveland.

Btw I'm not sure if Labate also needs waiver. Because if yes, he must be sent there until March 6.

Monahan should be ready to skate when he's cleared from his wrist issue. But even at half speed I think he would help them right away. Those guys want to play a short pass, slow cycling, and net front game.

If you think Fantilli with Marchy and Vronk was good, Monahan with those were damn near unstoppable. I was all for moving Fantilli bc he needed some confidence but that line is clearly not the same without Monahan. Specifically Voronkov hasnt been as productive as Fantilli isnt as smart of a player as Monahan is and his style is different (rush vs cycle). People also tend to forget how much Marchenko has been carrying it. Monahan with Vronk and Marchenko was the best line in the league, I think we can see that again.

Anyone else getting a vibe that a Fabbro contract for next year and beyond is not a priority. I keep hearing about discussions with Provy and Ollie but not one peep about Fabbro.
Feel the same way. Which is odd. But also nobody is really asking him about that contract either

IF - big if - Chinakov is ready, the natural fit is with Fantilli because they both like to play off the rush.
You realize there is no way they are taking Kuraly out of the lineup right? ZAR is the likely one to sit with Danforth and Olivier on the wings. I would also imagine that when Sillinger does return, he returns to center, unless it's a shoulder injury. I would suspect you flip 34 and 38 on your lines and 7 in for 27, sliding 17 to the wing. Wouldn't surprise me to see 21-34-59 as your 3rd line

And, no, this is not my way of pushing a Sillinger narrative. I like Boone at center and think he's a top 6 guy, but Sillinger has yet to spend any appreciable time at the wing in the NHL so I just don't see that changing and think a fit as the 3C make sense.

Mateychuk isn't going anywhere. Why would you even suggest that? And Labate does need waivers, but is highly unlikely to be claimed. He may also be an injury recall, although that may be Pyyhtia for Sillinger.
