I would be. Evason will care more about the standings than a potential small bump in a trade return

I don't know if Evason will want to disrupt too much by taking Fabbro off the top pairing, which has been phenomenal. I agree on that. But FWIW Werenski-Provorov got the exact same G and xG results. Provorov-Fabbro also looked very good in a few games together, which might be a go to if we see Werenski-Severson as the top pairing.

I know, but we've seen Evason be stubborn with stuff like this. I'd be shocked to see Fabbro taken away from Z unless something really forces it.

Seriously, show of hands for anybody that ISN’T that impressed with Fabbro….

Thinking he has a positive impact on Werenski playing the way he has, or producing points in the way he has, is ridiculous, IMO. Werenski has looked the same with everyone, Severson included. If anything, Fabbro is holding him back. Fabbro is closer to Jake Christiansen, than he is a “top pairing defenseman”.

Nylander 2.0. On waivers for a reason.

Another way to look at that - Fabbro hasn't stopped his D partner from playing at NHL MVP level over the last month. That's a good thing, right? And for a guy who doesn't need a huge contract, that's a very good thing, right?

Fabbro is ideal as a support player if the coach can use him.

It may be that Christiansen is helping Severson. They have good chemistry.

There's a difference being top pairing defenseman and being able to play in top pair. I'm just hoping that Fabbro and his agent understand that.

Ideally, players who are viewed as replaceable (even in theory) should only get offered contracts that keeps them easily tradable.

If they don't understand or agree with that, Waddell should move him.

I for one am amused as all hell about how your starting your next crusade of "Fabbro Is Actually Terrible" (so as to justify the holy quest of The Return Of Seth Jones) is forcing you to finally, begrudgingly acknowledge Werenski as a high quality defenseman.

Bring Back Blankenburg! :)

Chinakhov going from day-to-day to being out for months is ridiculous. It sucks but the Jackets have to move on from him because he can’t stay healthy.
Especially when nobody knows what it is. I swear Portzline said recently all he knows is that it is NOT a concussion which makes it even more confusing.

Why would you move on from him and take a loss on the trade when you can just keep him (he doesn’t make a lot and we have no cap issues) and not rely on him to stay healthy. There’s literally not good reason to move on from him unless it’s part of a deal you cant refuse.

I have liked our defence core in recent games.

There is some much needed depth when Christiansen-Severson is our third pair. Also I still like Werenski-Fabbro as a first pair which is an obvious fit. Fabio needs to stay. Second pair kinda has potential but I would eventually like to get a more fitting RD there to play with Mateychuk.

I think we should be extending Provorov. I was on the fence and could see trading him if the Jackets were far out of the playoffs. But this seems like a Gavrikov situation to me except Provorov is 2 years younger.

Provorov is a solid 2nd pairing guy. We know he can play on the right in a pinch. I think as soon as the Jackets move him they will be saying "gee we could really use a guy like him now."

Gavrikov is a much better player.
He is better but I wouldn't say he's *much* better. They're both defensively responsible players who can skate and provide secondary offense.

Provorov fits this system just fine as shown by the fact that Provorov is the player Dean Evason puts on the ice when Werenski comes off.

To me, the question isn't what they should do with Provorov but instead what can they do with Severson whose TOI/G is dwindling under Evason and whose 2nd PP spot was taken by Provorov and Mateychuk without a fight.

Not that there won't be more ups and downs in the future, but Severson has been the better player lately since his return to the lineup. I don't know if Provy is getting showcased or what leading up to the deadline but I don't think he adds anything to the PP or 3v3, him getting those minutes doesn't tell me anything about his quality.

I would put Gavrikov *much* ahead of Provorov, but that is more about Gavrikov for me. Provorov is very close to average in all regards for me.
