I hate to f*** over Cleveland..again.. but could we try LDBB first?

I think unless the slapdash roster we have goes on a big win streak, then in a few weeks it's probably too late to reinforce it by trade, just because we'll be getting in to February and thinking about the trade deadline. The appeal of making a move mid-season is that you can still sell at the deadline if it doesn't work.

Given how we don’t have our own second round pick for two years, I just don’t see Waddell throwing a life raft to this team. Unless of course they’re in deep contention at the deadline. I guess that could change things

A 2nd round pick was something we threw in to grease the wheels on a Laine trade.

To think we would spend it that way, but the pick would be too valuable to support the secondary scoring of this team, that is actually good, and has players playing at an elite level? We don't have a good enough reason not to put forth that minimal effort.

Now this glosses over the timing issue - I think there's a better case for buying mid-season and then seeing where you're at at the deadline, if you want to sell then. We could conceivably buy on Nyquist now and then later sell on Provorov.

My guess would be it's about Provorov. Given all the injury woes, Vancouver should be desperate for him. Meanwhile, Columbus are not in a hurry.
I’m trying to find where we are linked. Wonder if it was a radio appearance or something of that nature. Surprised more of CBJ Twitter aren’t talking about it.

If that's what he's said, there's nothing going on. He's just pointing out that there is a potential trade there.

What would Bunting cost from Pittsburgh?
I don't think they'd expect a first, so you're talking about a young player in the system, probably one who's ready to play in the NHL, and a non-low pick. Of course, we move those kinds of guys up so quickly, I'm not even sure who it would be. They have space I think so they're not looking to shed dollars. In fact, I think they'd consider adding them (i.e. taking on a bad contract) if it meant a better return in a trade like this. Not sure we have what it would take that we are willing to part with.

We're not trading Brindley, although I suspect he'd get it done. Seems like bad timing to talk trading LDBB, maybe? I don't think our defenseman beyond Mateychuk move the needle, but maybe try Svozil? Hunt and Harris aren't it, though, I wouldn't think. Dumais?

Bunting would be a great add for our group.

I was thinking Minnesota’s 2027 2nd plus a guy like Svozil. Bunting has a year and a half left on his contract. That would be good until a guy like maybe Brindley (or Lindstrom) is ready for minutes.

Sounds like the Monahan Injury is a wrist thing and he will be out for at least some time. Still waiting to see if there is a break apparently.

I kinda of wondered if Waddell would aim really high like a Pettersson type deal. Something like Voronkov-Monahan-Marchenko Fantilli-Pettersson-Johnson would be a pretty wild top 6 especially considering where we were a couple years ago
I’m all in on this idea. Especially if the cost is just Severson + Sillinger +.

I would think that it's at minimum going to cost a 1st + a 2nd + Provorov + Sillinger + more (Chinakhov, Brindley or something).
framework imo would be:
  • provorov
  • sillinger
  • one of chinakhov or brindley
  • two 1st round picks (likely MIN's + one of ours with protections)
and also taking back hoglander in the deal.

He's an absolutely fantastic player, so it sure would be expensive. I don't actually buy for a second that Vancouver are really going to move Pettersson. And maybe that's for the best, even though I'd obviously love to see him with CBJ, since it would mean that the Blue Jackets will have two extra 1sts to use to improve the defence with instead.

Pettersson's contract is bad enough that if we're sending substantial futures to Vancouver in the deal, that we should also be sending some bad long term salary (Severson?) too. At least that's what would make me supportive of a deal.

The tweeter suggests that Vancouver management loves Sillinger and links Severson to them as well due to the healthy scratches. Don’t think Provorov as a UFA to be is very attractive.

I know we’d have to add from my package I listed but it’s close to the framework they were suggesting (which was the Eichel deal)
