To be fair to Friedman, it's kind of like people in Columbus also forget about him. Porty devotes about 1/10 of the airtime to talking about Voronkov as he does to Cole Sillinger. For instance he wasn't even mentioned in a discussion listing our potential centers.

In this way we conceal him from our enemies so they cannot anticipate when he will strike.

There's advantages to all leftys. You know where to put the puck when you see someone with your peripheral vision. And you don't have to reverse the spin when a pass hits your stick.

While the line is playing well, I think now after the KJ injury they should break up that top line and move Marchenko down to play with Fantilli. To be clear, I thought the same before the Johnson injury.

Will be interesting to see how much icetime Kuraly/JVR get while short a forward. Seems Evason is cutting their minutes, which I agree with.

I’m not sure if anything is really being lost in translation though, he seems to have whatever Laine and some others have had in the past, IMO.

Eh, it’s not really “good” or “great” what I’m hearing, from either Jiricek, or Evason regarding Jiricek. Definitely some mixed messages/energy, IMO. Interesting pause after the question about players “earning” things.

I do think there’s a language issue there however, which I’m giving Jiricek some benefit of the doubt. His English isn’t great, so I’m sure there are some things being “lost in translation”, while things are being explained/expressed to him about different things. But, then again HE needs to understand this also, and not react negatively to different things.

I think it says something about Evason’s outlook on both LeBlanc and Jiricek.

I'm hoping for a Jiricek trade. "Agent Provocateur" has empowered his client to be years behind in his development and paved a way to put him on the ice in a league that he can't hang in. A true trailblazer. He broke the mold of developing defensemen in leagues that suit their skillset in order for them to be ready to succeed when they hit the NHL. I'm over it.

Mateychuk being in the AHL and Jiricek being in the NHL spells it out pretty obviously. Jiricek's unwillingness to play in the AHL here should be treated as if it's a trade demand. We can't build up a great blue line while treating a guy with kid gloves. I would love to be wrong but I'm worried about how he'll turn out, and the asset is very important. It seems like a trade would be a better use of the asset and that Jiricek and his representation have not seemed to want to make it work here since last season.

^I agree. I wasn't thrilled with the pick at the time, I thought the bust potential was too high as a player and then you add in his agent and attitude and yea, I'd definitely be looking to move him while he still has value.

I really liked him pre draft, he mentally ran circles around competition and did so aggressively. He was exactly who I wanted but it has just not gone right since he was picked. Without the physical tools to get around the ice on time he's a shell of himself.

We are not in the course of the current situation, it could have changed. But if not, a trade would probably be better.

So what's his value then? Would you be looking for picks, veterans or prospects in return? Could it be possible to get a prospect with 1RD upside?

One thought is they wanted to avoid another dust-up with Jiricek, who spoke openly last season of his disappointment in being sent down, and his agent, Allan Walsh, who is known to defend his clients as loudly and fiercely as any agent in the NHL. But the sense in Columbus is they wanted to watch Jiricek closely and see how he responded to the stark realization that another GM and another coaching staff didn’t think he was playing well enough to crack the Blue Jackets lineup. “I had a chat with David this morning,” Evason said before Saturday’s 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild in Nationwide Arena. “You know, we’ve talked about earning the right to play and to be in that (dressing) room. If you don’t play, you have to earn the right to get into our lineup. “How do you do that? You’re practicing hard, you’re working out hard, and you’re doing it with a positive attitude. You’re working your ass off every day. You are detailed. You’re coachable. And you get yourself ready to play. We notice that. Coaches notice that. And when you have a guy who doesn’t go hard, who doesn’t practice well … well, sorry, you’re not going to play.” If Jiricek hadn’t done all those things, Evason said, he wouldn’t have made his season debut on Saturday. “If you do all the right things, you give yourself a better chance to earn the chance to get into our lineup,” Evason said. “He’s done that.”

The Jackets are waiting for MRI results from multiple specialists to determine if Johnson’s shoulder will need to be surgically repaired again.
