Don’t think he’ll be re-signing. Don’t think they’ll look to trade him until 2025.

My guess would be draft picks.
Heard that Provorov trains with Sergachev during the off season.
I thought that the Blue Jackets may be willing to trade for younger NHLers than for prospects and draft picks. In the case of Utah, it would be for forwards like Crouse and Maccelli.

If Maccelli's first name was Luca, then hell yeah.

It is so infuriatingly transparent just how badly, desperately they want this to be a story.
that's what a bunch of us said about the patrik laine rumors too. whenever friedman says something along the lines of "you have to wonder about [player]" it's based on him hearing that the player's name is out there.

the coaches don't trust him, the agent will throw a(nother) fit if they sent him down, and he's not waddell's player. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they moved him.

if they do choose to move him, I'd prefer that they go after a slightly older + more mobile defenseman (i.e. guhle or byram)

They just claimed a right D on waivers. He has been healthy scratched 9 times and twice played less than 10 minutes. You had to know this was coming.

Of all the theories around Jiricek, the one I haven’t seen floated here is the idea that will work to trade him (but only for the right deal) if he and his agent keep their mouths shut for the first couple of months of the season.

Interesting Nemec has problems too.

Montreal has problems with center. Maybe we could trade Sillinger (plus something/somebody) for the first round (plus something/somebody). They have two picks and the pick of Calgary will be high too.

@Viqsi I think you'll like reading this (from Porty today)

Waddell said multiple times on Sunday that Fabbro’s “best years (in Nashville) were playing with (Roman) Josi.” On that surface, that seems like a rather “duh” comment, because Josi — who won the Norris Trophy in 2020 and has been a finalist three other times — is among the NHL’s best defensemen.

But Waddell thinks he can pair well with an offensive defenseman, perhaps even Werenski on the top pair.

“He’s a good defender,” Waddell said. “Not a lot of points, but we did all of the analytics on him and have watched him closely. He plays well with an offensive-leaning player. He’s fine to sit back and defend, and I think he’ll fit in very well with our guys.”

Regardless on whether or not Friedman is hearing things (which as someone who listens to 32TP every week, I really just think he’s spitballing, not hearing anything) I think it would be incredibly premature to trade Jiricek right now unless he and his camp are throwing fits behind the scenes.

Defensemen take longer. Perhaps he was fast tracked too quick and should have spent one more year at home before coming over to the AHL. He’s not developing right now, and it’s hard to make a case for him to stay up. He looked his best playing with Mateychuk in the preseason. Let’s get him down to Cleveland and have them grow together. Perhaps they can both come up together after the TDD when Provorov/Harris/Fabbro get moved.

"In order to fit Fabbro on the 23-man roster, the Blue Jackets placed winger Kent Johnson (shoulder) on injured reserve. He’s expected back before the end of November, though the Blue Jackets have not publicly announced a target return date."

Hadn't seen an expected return date for KJ yet

Piece that stuck out to me (besides the date!)

Last week on the “Ray & Dregs Hockey Podcast,” hosted by former NHL player-turned-broadcaster Ray Ferraro and TSN’s Darren Dreger, Evason was asked by Dreger if there was one player on the Blue Jackets roster that had opened his eyes since his arrival this summer.

Evason didn’t hesitate.

“I’ll probably say a guy who’s not even in our lineup right now (due to injury), and it’s Kent Johnson,” Evason said. “He started the season just absolutely fantastic. I didn’t know him. I would have probably said (Adam) Fantilli, but I did get to meet him at the World Championships last summer in Prague.

“Kent Johnson was driving our offense, and off the ice … everybody talks about Johnny Gaudreau being a rink rat, wanting to be at the rink every day, well, Kent Johnson is the same way. He’s still there every day. He was killing penalties for us, playing on the power play, he was doing everything for us.

“As soon as we can get all three injured guys back, but him in particular, that would be fantastic.”

Notice Werenski played with Severson. So maybe Fabbro can play with Provorov and Christiansen with Johnson/Harris/Jiříček/Mateychuk. In that case Ivan could use his offensive qualities more.

What does @Viqsi think?

I don't have the same level of confidence in Provorov's offensive abilities by comparison, but if it works, that'd be nice.

The question is what they will try to get for Jiricek - an established defenseman or a similar blue chip prospect or get a different position player

I agree with your assessment. The only thing that I might add is that there probably should be some kind of internal deadline for the CBJ with respect to Jiricek's attitude and play. If he's not making sufficient progress or demonstrates a regular questionable attitude then it's time to move on from him in accordance with whatever time frame they give him

You play to win the games. Zack Werenski and Sean Monahan (etc) want to win games.

Jiricek isn’t an NHL player. What he is in the future shouldn’t have ANY effect on him playing in the NHL right now. I’ve been vocal on my opinion on him. Should be the teams #1 trade bait for an upgrade of some sort.

While Sillinger looks better than what he did before, which to be clear was terrible, also IMO deserves to be a 4th line player or sitting games regularly. Pyyhtia is someone who absolutely deserves to be playing higher in the lineup and more minutes than Sillinger. He’s NOT a 2nd line center, or player.

JVR is somebody who should be getting more games than he is getting, over guys like Sillinger and Kuraly, and IMO also LeBanc and ZAR. He has better goal scoring ability around the net and just as good of a set up game than all these guys.

When does Mateychuk watch start?? Like JVR’s added offensive impact, other than Mateychuk being more than adequate as a defender, he was literally 1 of the most offensively impactful players during the preseason.

The teams absolutely misses Gaudreau from an on ice standpoint. KJ can’t come back soon enough. Voronkov is getting his legs back and looking better each game. Would like to see him at C and on the top PP unit, and him with Fantill would be nice.

Fantilli needs to slow EVERYTHING down. Problem is, I’m not sure he can. It’s hard to remember how young he is, but, sometimes I don’t think age is necessarily the issue with him. He’s definitely better at wing, at least for now.

I still keep Chinakhov/Marchenko split up 5 on 5. Until Johnson come back, at least.

Will be interested in watching Fabbro. Other than Jiricek, I’m also pretty much over Harris. JJ is a better option. Which says enough in itself.

Mateychuk can’t get her soon enough. Severson is a better partner for Werenski than Provorov, who we should be looking to move as soon as possible, for the simple reason that Mateychuk is the same exact style of player.

You lost me here. He has good hockey IQ and is a decent two way player but the dude has 1 point in 14 GP.
To be clear, I’m comparing him to Sillinger. He’s also a much better option playing higher in the lineup and much more skilled than Danforth. Or on the PP, which both Danforth and Sillinger have (borderline unbelievably) have consistently seen, right?

I think Pyyhtia is very Texier-like. Good player. Out of “nowhere” really.

The Sillinger shit needs to be talked about. I know we have Seth Jones PTSD around here, but, both him and Jiricek have essentially been a disaster at this point. Both their play and how they’ve been “handled” by the organization. I genuinely don’t understand the forcing him into every single possible role. Someone name 1 thing he excels at….he’s an upgrade on Kuraly and maybe Labanc, that’s it. Should be an addition to a Jiricek trade, if possible.

To me Sillinger feels like new Roslovic. Good speed with okish hands but no idea. Also cant score at all.

except roslovic can score and is leading one of the best teams in the league in scoring with 9 goals… his 9 goals would be leading our team by a country mile.
