Still wish we would have traded for Necas .. 18p in 10 games this season
There's no guarantee he does that here, not to mention what we would have had to give up to get him. Not really worth the future of the club considering we're getting damn good production from our own top 6 right now.

You'll never guess which player Necas has had the most success with so far this year.

I'll give some hints. He's a recent Jacket.

His name rhymes with Shmeric Shrobinson.

That line combination is not likely to last but it also makes sense that Brind'Amour could make great use of a forechecker with wheels like that.

Remember the Robinson - Domi - Bjorkstrand line under Torts in 2020/21 season. Coaches like him or Brind'Amour know to use similar type of players.

I actually think Jiricek could work on a pair with Harris. However JJ plays a decent role on the PK and seems stapled into his spot. So that’s why it’s just Harris and Jiricek rotating
Stapled to the precise starting point on the ice when his shift began? LOL.
I am generally glad JJ is back but he is even slower than I feared. Positioning is a great thing, but you've got to be able to beat the opposition to the spot every once in a while!

i haven't been able to watch all of the games this year (and likely won't be watching any of the west coast ones because i'm an old fart now) but to me jack has been visibly the worst player on the ice every time he's been out there.

obviously they're not going to break up the werenski-provorov pair, but at this point i'd rather see christiansen-jiricek as the third pair, and give jordan harris a shot with severson.

I had assumed that JJ would be part of the rotation.

I would honestly shake top6 lines like this

1. Fantilli - Monahan - Marchenko
2. Voronkov - Sillinger -Chinakhov

Not ideal to put Fantilli to wing but lines we have arent really working. Fantilli had some chemistry with Marchenko (who doesnt?) last year and that second line was mostly great last year too.

We should give it a try!

I think it actually is ideal to have Fantilli tried as a scoring line wing, it's not like he can't go back to center later on when he's more mature. I think he'd be a lethal winger with those two.

That second line hasn't played together much before, if ever, but I don't see why they wouldn't be tried. Of course I'd have Voronkov be the center but that's an old hobbyhorse.

Last year they (Vronk, Silly and Chinny) played some games together and the results were encouraging.

And that was last year.. in Pascal Vincent era...

Marchenko, KJ, Voronkov and Monahan are probably all considered as potential long-term top-6 guys but if we're being honest, none of them are very quick in transition and maybe only 2 of them should have a spot in those lines. Speed is also required from the bottom-6 when the system is fast and aggressive but I guess it all could work even if only 3/6 of those forwards are above average skaters, but preferably not less than that.
I don't know how reliable NHL EDGE skating stats are, and what can they even tell about the effectiveness of players' overall skating, but I find it a little surprising that through first 12 games Marchenko has more Speed Bursts Over 20 mph (24) than the league average (16). Johnson has 8 in 4gp so he also could be above average by now if didn't get injured.

Jackets forwards with more 20+ mph speed bursts than league average thus far:

53 - Fantilli
33 - Chinakhov
24 - Marchenko
24 - Kuraly
22 - ZAR (11gp)
21 - Danforth

<16:

15 - Olivier
13 - Pyyhtia
11 - Monahan
9 - Sillinger
8 - KJ (4gp)
8 - Labanc (9gp)
4 - JVR (11gp)
1 - Voronkov (3gp)

johnson looked really fast in transition this season. lsat year, not so much. marchenko is also fine in this regard.

i love voronkov but i am not sold on him as a top six forward, even if he ends up playing there a decent amount. i think he's more of a third line guy who gets netfront PP time.

I guess the issue I might have with Marchenko's skating is inconsistency. He obviously can do quick bursts but there's also been a lot of shifts where he's just gliding around. I wonder if he just runs out of gas quick or is he lacking compete. Yesterday he looked like someone had kicked his butt to really get him moving but unfortunately I haven't seen that type of effort from him in every game.

I give Marchenko a pass, we've seen him come an incredibly long way in his development as an athlete. And I think he's probably more of a fast twitch guy - in converse to someone like Werenski who is built to take long strides all day - Marchenko is about those few explosive moves to burn an opponent.

I agree, I think Voronkov looks more comfortable offensively in the middle. His skating and rustiness are holding him back from the position but I do like him in the middle with his vision and passing skills.

I see Voronkov as more comfortable as a center - probably a 3rd line center. I don’t see Sillinger as a top 9 center (maybe 4th line C) but could see him as a 3rd line winger. He’s young so maybe my opinion will change with more experience.
