In all honesty, how much of Panarin and Johnny making this list is because of their star power and what they did with other teams more-so than what they actually accomplished with Columbus?

Both deserving players but if we are talking about actual accomplishments in Columbus, leaving Vyborny off this list for them is a bit of a travesty considering he was here for 7 years and is still top 6 on the career points list.

Panarin made more of a difference in two years than Vyborny made in 7. By a good margin. You don't have to look at what Panarin did elsewhere, for me it's the same as if he only played those two years in his career.

I wouldn't question Panarin or Johnny's place here. Looks right to me.

I think the question with Vyborny is more that there isn't a big gap between him and Cam and Foligno and Jenner. For me personally, that last first team is very debatable between all of those guys.

In any event or reasoning, Vyborny is a victim of recency bias. Out of sight, out of mind. He was an important part of those early teams even if they all sucked. I'm certainly not saying those guys don't deserve to be on it but it can be kind of hard to judge a small sample size against a more significant stretch of play in the team's history.

Still my favorite player to play for this team.

Ray Whitney and Johnny Gaudreau have very similar numbers for their two seasons in Columbus.

Whitney 151 games 140 points -49

Gaudreau 161 games 134 points -60

I don’t much care for these things especially for a still relatively young franchise, but I don’t have many problems with our listings. I don’t know about Tyutin/Savard over JJ but that’s my only gripe.

Savard yes but Tyutin no imo. Honestly I take Ryan Murray over Tyutin.

Another thought on this, why is it only 2 lines of forwards and defensemen chosen?

Why aren't there 4 forward lines and 3 defensive pairings like a real team? It would stretch our history pretty thin to fill but what about teams like Detroit and Montreal and the players in their history that would get left off?

I think I was pretty generous putting some of the people in the second group instead of the first group, but boy have we missed on top 10 draft picks.

High draft picks that aren’t in the conversation
#8 Leclaire
#4 Zherdev
#8 Picard
#6 Brule
#6 Brassard
#7 Voracek
#6 Filatov
#6 Jiricek

High draft picks that might be in the conversation but aren’t no brainers
#4 Klesla
#4 Johansen
#2 Murray
#3 PLD

High draft picks that are serious candidates
#1 Nash
#8 Werenski

High draft picks but it is too early
#5 KJ
#3 Fantilli
#4 Lindstrom

Tyutin was a turnover machine. If thats your fourth best defenseman of all time for this franchise I'm not sure what to say.

I mean the team has achieved effectively nothing, so it sorta makes sense doesn't it?

Id put Denis in over Mason. And Vyborny not being there is garbage.
That Mason is our second team goalie speaks volumes. He had one great year - his rookie year - and faded into being a below average goalie.

I don’t much care for these things especially for a still relatively young franchise, but I don’t have many problems with our listings. I don’t know about Tyutin/Savard over JJ but that’s my only gripe.
I’d have JMFJ over Toots as well. The JJ we see now is a shell of the guy who joined the CBJ in the Carter trade and added immense energy to the team

There are/were better options. He just played in this franchise for a while. Not really an accomplishment imo.

I thought Tyutin was a good #2/#3 type for a while and better than JJ. He'd be on my second team as well. It's been a while though.

not disagreeing with atkinson being on the first team, but i'd flip him and gaudreau simply because it creates nice symmetry.

the first team would be the five biggest stars to play here, and the second team would have the foligno-jenner-atkinson trio that forms the emotional core of the last decade.

as for the defense… love tyutin but jack johnson's first tour here should give him the nod. and, again, it reunites johnson and savard on this list.

steve mason being the #2 goalie is deeply upsetting but i genuinely don't know what the alternative would be.

Who's on the injury team?

Horton-Brule-Picard
Murray-Klesla
Leclaire

Lot of options for forward, just out of drafted players. Argument could be made that Brule wouldn't have been an effective NHLer anyway without drastically changing his game. Picard had a bad leg injury in the AHL that he never recovered from. Murray and Rusty were just constantly injured. Leclaire was named LeGlass around here before his trade to Ottawa.
