Couple of highlights from Samuel Johannesson today:

GOAL

And a more impressive assist

Also an interview with him before the game about his personally disappointing year last season.

Thanks for this. This might be the first news posted on him all year. I noticed his stats declined relative to his draft year but I didn't know if his play was considered disappointing or not. Hopefully he'll bounce back.

He was pretty much buried on Rogle last year, so it was a pretty stalled development year. I think Seider being on that team really impacted him. I like that the pass today came after to goal... like it gave him a boost of confidence that carried on. There was a post game interview video with him too, but it's in Swedish and I don't speak Swedish.

I'm a fan of his, I think he's a longshot but he has some really slick offensive skills that you can see in both those clips (exhibition game disclaimer of course).

Wheeler did a 2018 1st round re-draft and has Marchenko at #23 (up 26 slots from actual) and Foudy at #27 (down 9 slots from actual).

Marchenko:
I debated re-drafting Marchenko as high as No. 21. There’s a case to be made for him as a better NHL prospect than Merkley and a better future player than Leonard. But I gave Leonard the benefit of the doubt as a guy who is already playing at the level, and Merkley the continued benefit of the doubt (for now) on his skill level. Marchenko just looks like he’s going to be a good, multi-faceted middle-six winger who can play up and down the lineup at this point. There’s nothing in his game that worries me. He’s got an NHL frame, he can make plays as a shooter and passer (though he’s more impressive in the former area), he’s strong along the cycle, he’s talented for his size in possession, and so on. He’s not ever going to wow you or change the makeup of a team significantly, but it’s not hard to imagine him contributing 20-plus goals and 40-something points as an important piece of the puzzle.

Foudy:
Foudy, like Denisenko, is another kid who I still think was taken too high but I was also still much too low on. I have ongoing concerns about Foudy’s ability, skill level, east-west game, and sense when the games slows down. He was always a brilliant skater with rare athleticism who was going to be able to forecheck effectively, penalty kill, win races, create the odd breakaway for himself, and turn defenders in transition. But his processing didn’t always keep up with his feet and I worried then as I worry now that he’d top out as a bottom-six guy, or that if he were playing higher than that in the lineup it would be as the third-best player on his line. I still think that’s his outcome but those players do have value and in a re-draft of a weak draft, just becoming a serviceable full-time NHL who adds speed to a lineup and can play a role to a tee makes you a first-round pick. I’ve got to take the L on this one, though I’m not sure it’s reason to believe in player types built in Foudy’s mould as first-round picks, if only because we’ve still more often seen those guys selected too higher for their skating than too low (see: Michael McLeod, Zach Senyshyn, etc.).

Columbus wanted to buy out Voronkov`s contract although he had to come after the next season (2021/22). But Voronkov promised he will play the whole his contract in Ak Bars so he are going to come after 2022/23. Fortunately only one year later.

Danis Zaripov, one of the best players in Russia about Voronkov:
Voronkov - one of the little future stars.

About buy out - Allhockey.ru: Валиуллин: сумели убедить Воронкова, что он нужен "Ак Барсу"
"As for Voronkov, until recently, it seemed that everything was decided. There was already a paper on the table: Columbus paid two-thirds of his contract and would take a forward after a season, as prescribed in the regulations. We managed to convince the player that Ak Bars, the league, needed him. They gave a lot of arguments, did everything possible and the offer of "Jackets" was sent to the basket. Voronkov will spend at least (I doubt ;)) two more seasons at Ak Bars"
I think it`s right. Ak Bars is coaching by Kvartalnov who knows to work with young players, believe them. Dima can be a real leader. It`s better than play in AHL as Chinakhov. His development will be better. And he would arrive only one season later.

What is the timeline of the quote about the intended buyout / when did that happen? This past year? Was it the reason Kazan gave him a bigger contract, to keep him from accepting Columbus' payment for the buyout?

I don’t know but i did find out how much he’s making on his new deal from an article from June. 25,000,000 Rubles…or $338,761

Which would indicate it's not about money as he woudl have the chance to make roughly 3x that if he were to make the big club. The risk, of course, would be if he didn't play in the NHL, then it's around $75K in the AHL as I recall. That's clearly different. He'll come over when there is little doubt he woudl make the CBJ. Still very bright future and I would imagine it's possible they attempt the buyout again next year. It's OK though, we'll wait :D. He's going to be worth it as a key piece and part of future core.

I think 16 months. It wasn't about money but development. What's happen salary, worse players had similar or better contract so Voronkov has got higher. But not too higher. He had 20 000 000, he has 30 000 000 now. Of course rubles.

Maybe he can use all those ruble notes to save money on firewood, or pillows.

I'm not sure what you mean by 16 months. My question was when did the Jackets try to buyout his KHL contract? Spring 2021?

Of course. If later he couldn't play in 2022/23 season.

I don’t mind waiting the extra year on the kid while he continues developing. My only concern is that each year he is not in North America gives the KHL one more year to convince him to stay and become a lifer.

I get that but to some of these younger guys the NHL is the dream I could be wrong
