Only Werenski, Fabbro, and Mateychuk can stay next year. Besides that every defenseman has to go.

Agreed.

I think Severson is fine for a third pair but you can't keep him if our coach prefers Johnson-Gudbranson somehow. If that's the decision the coach makes then you have to eliminate the decision entirely.

Maybe Evason is trying to send a message to management? I'm kind of at a loss.

I think that theory might have some truth to it - that Evason is trying to force management to trade Severson.

Evason really, really does not like Severson.

Sometimes coaches can put a ton of misplaced faith in veterans. If young players were -2 in 2 shifts they would take action, but with older players they overlook it.

But it's a really really bad pairing, I'm wondering if this is a play to piss off Severson so much that he will waive his NTC. JJ - Gudbranson is that bad that I'm reaching for theories here.
You know more about this than I do but I wonder if it is as simple as we just don’t have much talent to choose from on the blue line? Could it be that we need major upgrades for our bottom pairings?

What is mind blowing is that they're scary when they are out there, in a bad way obviously. They're bad in a way that's nerve-wracking and I figured that would override the "trust the vets" instinct but supposedly not. I don't know man.

Evason is too excited by being physical as if hits = effort but effort doesn't always = being effective. Guys like Kunin and JJ can skate around aimlessly but lay an occasional hit and buys themselves way more leash than they deserve

That would explain perhaps why we don't have a better puckmover like Christiansen or Harris out there with Gudbranson - that they're not very good and Evason has lost faith in them and turned to the worse-fitting but trusted JJ. It can't explain why Severson is scratched though, he's much much better than JJ and Gudbranson.

Yes that's why I'm reaching for theories.

Missed first portion of period and saw we were at two down. Has score reflected our play?

Reading messages makes it sound like poor defense and goalie to start

JJ and Gudbranson smiling and talking on the bench after another JJ disaster shift. Maybe they're in on it, perhaps throwing for a stake in Worthington Steel or something. Nationwide giving them a free policy or something? Warios for life?

The first few minutes were a disaster yes. First goal was entirely on Tarasov though, he got beaten clean. Second goal was Matinpalo sneaking in behind Fantilli, who didn't notice him.

Yeah Ottawa has played better and has had some nice offensive zone shifts. The kind we used to have in the early-to-mid season (before Monahan got hurt, remember those cycle shifts...). It's evened up a bit now, and like stevo said Elvis has made some good saves.

The Jenner - Monahan - KJ line had some excellent offensive zone shifts.

It's Fantilli (again) that can't figure out possession hockey. He also is at fault for the second goal. Forgive me for asking but I wonder if he can't figure out how to play center, then how many years is it going to take before a coach puts him where he's better suited, in a topline winger position? People want him to be a center so badly that I think they're going to try and force it for years, even if it is a poor use of the player and sets the team back.

Very much disposable
Fischer
Kunin
ZAR
Tarasov
Jack Johnson

Not going to break my heart disposable

Would be okay to trade
Severson

Would be okay to re-sign

Provorov
Fabbro

Your point is well taken
This team has played with heart the whole season
They need more talent across the board at every position
