"Jarmo" sounds so much more exotic and winning than "Scott".
I predict babies will be named after him.

He wont be our only Fin superstar. We drafted Joonas Korpisalo in goal last year. And of course, we have Handyy.

Well there can't be much doubt that JD has full authority to do what he wants to do. AND he knows what he wants to do.

Great to see the GM Howson gone, but sad to see the good man that Howson is lose his job. Good luck to you Scott. I am sure that you will thrive elsewhere.

I am glad that our soon to be new GM is getting rave reviews. I also hope that this means that we will be grabbing some of those great Euro players that are out there before the Redwings get a chance to take them.

MTV3 for the very least is offering stream for the Jokerit/Kekäläinen announcement at 16.30 local Finnish time.

Went to bed hoping we'd have a GM sooner rather than later and woke to this news. I couldn't be more happy. We got a hockey guy who knows how to draft. Things are looking up.

I've been very deliberately and personally targeted in the recent past. It's a tad justified.

You're painting with an extremely broad brush on the "protest group" topic, V. Either its truly personal, or you've made it personal.

You're free to disgree, and discussion is always welcome, it just seems like you've fallen back to mud slinging to try and consolidate your point about the protest being an embarassment to the fans of the organization.

I apologize on behalf of the people that, as you said, have "targeted" you, specifically, but within a year, Priest is out of a decision making role for the on-ice product (Yes, I'd like to have seen him fired, but its still a minor victory when you consider that he's no longer going to be pounding on desks, loudly demanding flaky players, or sitting in the coaches offices post-game) and Howson is looking for work now. The main goal was culture change through change at the top, I see it as a success, in that both are not in the decision making process for the on ice product.

Hard to argue that change is here. Whether its for the best remains to be seen, but this organization just won me back after a few years of doubting directions.... I think anybody in the front office would say a day they win back the trust of more fans is a good day.

"Davidson opts to Finnish what Howson started"

Michael McDonald to sing "Jarmo Be There"

You guys have Stockholm syndrome if you think Howson did a good job or should be allowed to steer the team through a very important draft. Jarmo is pretty much the best option out there, given the circumstances.

We're looking to get some Helsinki syndrome, now, baby. (Yes, I just picked the largest, best-known city.)

Coming in peace.

Jarmo was awesome for the Blues and we were sad to see him leave. Good for him and good for you guys. He will definitely get you guys turned around. Especially come the draft.

Best thing about this move is that it provides several year grace period of folks not clamoring for the GM's head will give time for the rebuild that we all knew was coming.

Hello Capn! Well well, now this is interesting turn of events for Columbus

Congratulations for you guys if it happens, I was actually pretty surprised at the time he took the GM job in Finland, leaving the Blues organization. I remember the Blues GM saying that Kekalainen will definitely be a GM for a NHL team soon, seems that he was pretty spot on with that prediction.

I know that it's again another guy without previous NHL GM experience, but he has great connections and he was really important piece for the Blues, especially with draft and prospects.

You guys really deserve to start winning sooner than later, hope this brings new boost for the organization!

Nice to see you around, again, Handyy!

A fantastic hire. A Canadian and a Finn working in tandem will have the Blue Jackets buzzing in no time (3 years).

As long as I don't have to figure out how to put those cute little dots over the "a"!

Since I haven't taught any old dogs some new tricks yet today, hold down alt and type in 132. On my keyboard you have to use the numeric keypad to get your ä.

All sorts of other fun things you can type with alt combinations.

expecting all of your posts to now have ascii ☺ so that you can be cool and unique instead of using the standard :) that everyone else uses.

Agreed. And I expect Jarmo will bring in his people as well, including at some point a new head coach. (And no, I'm not calling for Richards to be fired in case someone reads more into that than what I said).

Richards only has another year after this one. Unless he gets an extension after this season, I think the writing's on the wall that he's gone after next season. He's, essentially, coaching for his next contract elsewhere.

Sad to see Kekalainen leaving Jokerit, but very happy for him personally. He's definitely earned the job and will be making good changes in Columbus. The fans will be happy for this signing. Good luck Keku!

Also I will definitely follow Blue Jackets closer now..
