The meter was running on Howson the day that JD was hired.

I (foolishly) thought that he would wait until the end of the season. Where I erred was with respect to the draft process. With a potentially franchise-defining draft rapidly approaching, JD had to pull the trigger much sooner. Howson's influence on the organization had to be eliminated before it further poisoned the well. No more future draft picks needed Scott Howson's fingerprints on them. Enough was enough.

His reign as GM will go down as one of the most inept in league history when both tenure and results are included.

Anyone who truly thought that John Davidson was going to allow Scott Howson to be a long term GM is either naive or delusional. He didn't come to Columbus to be Captain of a rudderless vessel.

I've already been getting "ha ha you lose" emails and one-and-a-half thinly veiled "**** off and go away" posts in this thread. That's kind of a large part of why I'm annoyed.

Given that, I'll be happy to take a step back when other folks are willing to extend the same courtesy.

You'll be waiting a while.

As CBJ fans and supporters, we're all supposed to be on the same side. Various circumstances cause minor differences, but there's always going to be a fringe element that takes any opportunity to lose sight of that and simply be a jackass. (Yeah, I've gotten PMs previously, and an email from someone who I have no idea how they got my email address.)

I think there's a decent amount of respect here, despite occasional flareups. But there's always that small segment...

Well, that's simply crazy talk.

Being a short season I thought he may last until the season ended, but the trade deadline, draft prep etc is an issue; ones I didn't take into count... good post btw.

OH MY GOD...it all makes sense...our new GM is gonna be lenay kekua

I just checked to make sure that it wasn't April 1.

That would have been the cruelest April Fool's joke ever if someone invented a Finnish scout and carried the charade on for more than a decade just to punk Blue Jackets fans!

OK...bottom 5% performer. More sane for you?:naughty:

You need look no further than his predecessor to find someone substantially worse.

No, if you want to be actually honest about it, you'd have to go into the upper half automatically. You underestimate how many absolutely atrocious GMs there have been throughout history, and overestimate how quickly one would need to dig out from under MacLean's pile.

We won't be able to fully assess this particular regime for a few years anyway, but I have a difficult time fathoming a scenario where "bottom 5%" or "bottom 25%" or even "bottom 50%" holds true.

Speaking of which, I'd like to punch the idiots in the hockey media who have mentioned John Ferguson as a possible replacement for Howson.

Who rebuilds more? The Brownies or the Blue Jackets? I'm a Cbus resident

A decent number of Cleveland fans were thrilled when Phil Savage was fired as GM. He was succeeded by George Kokinis, who basically had no power because Eric Mangini had full control. After that was Tom Heckert, and now replaced by Mike Lombardi.

Simply replacing an unpopular GM doesn't mean that things automatically get better...in the case of the Browns, it's been shown that it can get a lot worse very quickly.

Who was it last year who reported Craig Button?

I checked my Twitter feed when I woke up in the morning that day and suddenly didn't feel like getting out of bed at all.

Given how rarely we have the opportunity to agree, I'd like to take this one.

Well, okay, I'd rather set them on fire than throw punches. But the sentiment's the same. :)

IMO, what matters the most is who is hiring the GM. I don't know who hires the Browns GM's, but I like who is hiring the next Blue Jackets GM.
