  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

… the consensus from virtually everyone seems to be that CBJ got him cheap?
Ya it’s been a crazy mix of reaction forsure.. lots of people think it’s a huge return for Avs and a lot feel it was a cheap pickup for CBJ.. must mean that it’s an even trade!

Avs fans happy to see him go and cbj fans happy to get him

Colorado had to dump him. Expected low price + the mental issues he has.
Normally I'm apprehensive about losing players. Honestly more concerned about losing Drury. Val has been invisible for the amount of ice time he gets. Especially near the end of the year and the playoffs. Not exactly sure why everyone thinks this was a robbery. I'd be very surprised if he breaks 40 points next season.

Not very excited to hear this, his "character issues" are a bit of a tough pill to swallow. The only hope is that the other Russians can keep him in line, Columbus might be one of the few teams where that could work out. Play wise I haven't seen enough in recent years, he was obviously really good some years ago but he didn't show up in the scoresheet much in the latest playoff runs so I fear he's gonna have a hard time finding the groove again.

I’ll admit, I was surprised to see Colorado move Drury. He was more than satisfactory in the role he had and I thought was actually a nice valuable depth piece.

Very disappointing as an Avs fan. But realistically, the Avs window closed with the disgraceful butt-kicking at the hands of Vegas and the Avs organization's decision to stick with Bednar as their coach given he's the common denominator in all their poor playoff performances.

Columbus just rail-roaded Sakic on this deal.

Ya i was more shocked about Drury being dealt than Nichushkin. I quite liked Drury but maybe he’s pushing for a contract that Avs didn’t wanna give… pretty much the new norm this offseason for why young guys are being dealt

Trading Dallas what exactly?

They can talk to him for free in a week. That said, after making that comment, I went and had a look at their cap situation. Even after moving Drury and Nichushkin, I'm not sure they can make it work. They have 5 open spots on their roster, even using depth players, that'll eat up a decent chunk of their 11m in cap space. And while I could see Robertson taking 10m to play on a top team, I don't see him taking significantly less than that. So short of moving out Nelson or Lehkonen (both of whom had decent seasons for their contracts) I'm not sure how that works.

Landeskog had a crap ES but a good playoffs, and after the time off he had, not really unexpected. I'm also doubtful that they'd move their captain given the situation.

Yeah, I think Dallas might have an issue with that.

Why is it closed? Other than Nuke, the core is still there. I think the real change will be next season when Roy and Makar need new deals.

Nichushkin is basically a 2 way beast when healthy, Avs sold low here and 6 mil for 4 seasons these days is not bad at all unless he completely implodes. The likelihood of any of those draft picks becoming as good a player as Nichushkin is low, and probably wouldn't be truly impactful for 4-5+years even if they hit. Avs could parlay these picks into something else so there's that, but I'm still a bit surprised by the return.

There are some red flags with him obviously but I think Avs could have done better here. They basically needed the cap space and decided to forego a premium asset coming the other way.

There are some red flags? He "might" implode? He imploded already, few times.

We got bad return, because his problems. Thats it.

This deal has a chance to work if CBJ can arrange the closure of every liquor store in central Ohio.
YOU ARE IN LUCK WE HAVE BLUE LAWS HERE (not in Franklin which is where Columbus is at but in most of the state we take weed/liquor control extremely seriously)
