I believe it was earlier mentioned that there was a very strong wind in their faces. One problem, as I saw it, was the rookie running back giving up 10-15 yards on the fourth down try when he had no hole. I understand trying desperately to make something happen, but that gave the Ratbirds more than they needed to get into easy range for the win.

I don't blame Bernard. Like you said, he's a rookie, and his competitive instinct took over and he tried to make something happen. He did, all right:laugh:

Going for it on 4rth down and 2 has, perhaps, a bit less risk than missing a field goal of 51 yds with a moderate head wind. But, if one is not willing to take the risk of the missed field goal and the ensuing good field position for the opponent, then a punt is in order. A missed field goal-in this case-would have probably given the Ravens worse field position.

I can't wait to see what Marvin the Mindless will do vs. Cleveland if a critical strategic decision needs to be made. It will, undoubtedly, be the wrong one.

It won't come to that. The Browns will have the game in hand by mid way through the 3rd quarter, assuming Brandon Weeden never sees the field.

Whether or not you're watching the Ohio State game because you're a fan or just because you don't like them - you have to appreciate the effort of Nathan Scheelhaas from Illinois. Kid is a battler!

If Baylor wins out, they will jump OSU in the BCS rankings. They're ahead in 3/6 computer rankings, and their final three opponents (Oklahoma State, TCU, and Texas) are infinitely better than Indiana, Michigan, and whatever MAC-caliber school they'll oppose in the B1G championship.

If Oregon annihilates their last two opponents and Arizona State in the Pac-12 title game, they'll be right there as well. I don't think they jump OSU, but they'll be right there.

You Americans create so strange, impossible to understand rules. So a team might be unbeatable for 2 years in a row and won't get a chance to play for the national title? Why won't you schedule one extra game? Like semifinals round? The only sport where the best teams are named by voting and not decided by the game.

"MAC-caliber"? Now you're just trolling. Even Mark May's been willing to acknowledge that Michigan State would be a worthy opponent and would constitute OSU having "beaten somebody".

I'm sure they'll jump the Buckeyes with a OkState win (assuming they win in their standard fashion of "by at least 20 points, probably more"). I'm not convinced it'll stay that way if the Buckeyes do meet MSU and trash 'em.

EDIT: Oh, and TCU is crap this year. Much like Indiana, their only conference wins are against doormats. Both Texas and Michigan are badly struggling and losing games they should win. But I'll concede that Oklahoma State looks much better than MSU simply because they have an offense.

Urban Meyer on the BCS:

"Without spending much time on it, because it's not fair to our team for me to spend much time on it, I will say this -- I think it's a flawed system. But when you logically think about what the BCS people have done, and which obviously we're all part of, I think it was great for a while. I think you take an imperfect system and you do the best you can without hosting a playoff."

In other words: "I was fine with it in 2006 when it benefited us, but now it's garbage."

Or, perhaps, "it was great compared to what came before, despite its flaws". And nowhere does he say anything like "it's bad now".

Seriously, hon. You're practically self-parodying at this point.

in a ways, yes...in other ways no...a lot of UF fans were put off by his politicking...but i also now understand why so many fans hated him then as well...maybe its vicinity as well...being so close now and with twitter there's far more coverage making it more unbearable if that makes sense...in the end, its not particularly mattering to me...they need Bama or FSU to lose, and with Idaho and us left, I don't see it being FSU...

another hitch is if Bama loses to Auburn, does AU then jump OSU as well?

OSU fans should just accept the Rose Bowl and hope VaTech is really good to give them the bump they're looking for next year...

its a "name value" more than anything...when they beat VaTech ppl will say "wow they beat VaTech" regardelss of how bad beamer is coaching them at the time...
If that were true, we wouldn't be getting mocked about how we dared to schedule Cal.

Cal hasn't done anything since they were scheduled...when some guy named Rodgers was the QB
VT's been irrelevant for longer.

...oh, wait, I forgot, they're Bama's big-time non-conference win, so they're not allowed to be irrelevant until next year. Sorry! :thumbu:

i don't see how 4 conference championships in the last 10 years is "irrelevant"

2004 ACC 10-3 7-1
2007* ACC 11-3 8-1
2008* ACC 10-4 6-3
2010* ACC 11-2 9-0
Total conference championships 10

and comparing last 10 years of bowl games

2012 Russell Athletic Bowl
2012 AllState Sugar Bowl
2011 Discover Orange Bowl
2009 Chick-fil-A Bowl
2009 Orange Bowl
2008 Orange Bowl
2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl
2006 Gator Bowl
2005 Sugar Bowl

5 BCS Bowl games

vs

2003 Insight
2005 Las Vegas
2006 Holiday
2007 Armed Forces
2008 Emerald
2009 Poinsettia
2011 Holiday

ZERO BCS Bowl Games

but yes...WAY irrelevant

When you lose to Boise St you become irrelevant. :sarcasm:

Could this, perhaps, be because the standards for championship and BCS qualification in the ACC are, shall we say, slightly less strenuous than those in the Pac-12?
