Sounds like Jaded wishful thinking.

They aren't diminishing enough to drop from the mediocre hell that they are in now. Injuries will rise most likely. But, there will always be just enough talent to remain around 14 to 20 in the draft.

No rebuild is happening until they hang them up.
Totally disagree. Time will tell but they will fall of a cliff if not later this season, next season. Unless again they bring in big time UFA's.

Obviously, the answer is no. For two reasons.

The generational names wanted to end their careers here.

And honestly they earned it in my book. So, I am fine with that.

And, the ownership wants to milk dollars off of their names for as long as possible. I am less fine with this, but I get it. I no longer pay the bills as my season ticket holder status lapsed a couple of years ago.

So, accept it.

We have two to four more years of this.
No one in sports history deserves a 5 year swan song. I appreciate their efforts and their results, but these guys didn't work for charity, they made millions. I'm sorry they dont' get the ending they want.. boo friggn hoo.

Yep, the team is FAR more important than any individual player. And this team hasn't one a playoff series since 2018. I feel (Core) they've been around as long as they should be. We don't owe the core anything at this juncture.

It begs the question.

When do you see Crosby and Malkin hanging them up?

And do you see either asking for and/or accepting a trade until then?

That is the mediocrity hell window.

What I mean is they won't completely tear it down to the studs so long as Sid is still here.
Well, who exactly is here that's very good anymore? There's a ton of borderline NHLers here. The roster has a lot of holes. That suggests to me we're about to get passed up by marginal teams. We'll be picking in the top 10. That's what I care about. Draft and Develop. Make those picks count.

I don't think it matters. Even if they want to keep playing a while a time will come where the Pens are bad even with them in the lineup. You could argue we're already there. Malkin can't carry the garbage they give him any more and Sid while still good is starting to slow down too.

So even if those guys decide to play past their current deals the Pens might be bad enough to tank even with them in the lineup.

Hell the only reason the Pens are in the race at all is because the bottom half of the east has been worse than normal this year. In a normal playoff year we'd be talking about the draft already instead of wondering if the Pens can somehow sneak into 8th.

It's one thing to submit with keeping the core 3 together; but after the way those 3 sullied the next 10 games after Jake was traded last year..... all bets should have been off with Dubas regarding those 3.

After MP (because everyone knows he'll be traded), who will be the next Pen traded? Don't answer Jarry, as all you need to know about his trade value is that the Avs traded for Blackwood and gave him a contract just like Jarry's. So who else is it?

Rakell has 20 goals and is signed for a couple more years only 31. He'd bring a lot.

And in inordinate amount of 3 points games, which the NHL should really do away with. The Provorov display in the final 40 seconds of regulation (that is 1% of the game BTW) sealed that for me.

Depends on your definition of tanking.

No way they pick top five until the names hang them up. Teams who truly tank trade everyone away and play career minor league players. They will pick outside the top ten, which historically means minor percentage differences in finding an every day player and an extremely small chance of finding a star.

No they won't, they'll be in the bottom ten this season. Watch and see. Next season barring a big UFA bottom five.

You see the names as if they're in their primes. My good sir THEY ARE NOT! This isn't 2016.

Ideally you get a really late pick for Ned

They might pick top 5 a few years from now pending what moves Dubas makes. Or do you think 40 year old Sid keeps them out of that? I dont

The continued method of handing over leads is on the top 2-3 coach—thank god he’s still here to lead us into mediocrity or we’d be looking for another top 2-3 coach, or something like that…

They won't completely gut the team as long as Sid and Geno remain. So, they will do better than the teams who do. Meaning picking 14 to 20 each year. Again, I hope that I am wrong, but I don't see how. Except for dumb bad (good?) Luck.

Geno won't sign another contract the way he's falling off and getting no-one to play with. He wanted a year in the KHL to finish his career right? He may not have the legs if he waits more than another year.
