Yes, it's a way of adding depth and telling a tight nit group that they aren't losing anyone. He's nothing more than depth and he allows Cleveland to keep a few players that should help with their playoff run and give them big minutes. But is it really? A reward??? Just watched some of his shifts over the past month and he doesn’t seem to do anything really well.
Would have preferred to keep the pick if prices were too high and do nothing.
Man I was about to give you such props.Called it
Multiquote wasn't working for me, but I said it has to be a 4th or 5th on the last page before it came out what we paid.
Is Kunin even better than LaBate who was just assigned back to Cleveland ? At least LaBate is a 6’5 grinder that can throw down when neededKunin Hit and Block shots! Reese upgrade IMO.
This is my projected line up once everyone is healthy

I think Kunin will be better than LaBate.
But definitely won't be ahead of Danforth and probably not ZAR either.
I've thought about it after reading up everything I could about Kunin.
His determination and grit, his physicality, bad puck decisions, bad passes, league-worst analytics, ability to play center, positive experience with Evason, inability to score, well liked by teammates...
We just got ourselves a Cole Sillinger fill-in.
So scratch what I wrote earlier about Kunin not playing ahead of all these guys. Look for him at 3C and to be the first candidate tried to slide up a line when someone gets injured at 2W or 2C.
So you're saying Kent Johnson just got a new linemate?I've thought about it after reading up everything I could about Kunin.

what lines would you roll with sunday if you think kunin slots in at 3c? think fischer plays?

Myself and @majormajor (I believe) are in the same wavelength about Sillinger. They are playing him to high in the lineup. He is at best a very low 2C(not now further down the road) better slot is a 3C. His puck decisions, speed and offense are not very good. Could that get better with time maybe, but keep him away from the 1st and 2nd line and offensively talented guys.Man, did Sillinger run over your dog or something? You say you only go after Sillinger because people think he is better than he is (which I haven’t seen on this board), but this attack on a solid 21 your old kid is ridiculous. He has 29 points in 54 games so inability to score is inaccurate. (Kurally has 13 points in 62 games, Pyyhtia has 7 points in 47 games. We do have guys who don’t score that you could go after, but I haven’t seen that.) I remember when you were more excited about him than KJ. Is being wrong about that somehow subconsciously leading you to consistently making negative posts about him online?

Now he isn’t all bad and good PK’er but not a PP guy.
I think we are talking past each other. I don’t believe he was developed correctly either but there needs to be some off season work to have gains in the areas he needs to improve. He also needs to be slotted correctly and not gifted 2nd line roles whether on the wing or center when he clearly needs to develop (ala moving JVR down to 4th line duties when JVR is clearly playing better). I believe that is why major and speaking for myself are frustrated.Plenty of people here believe Sillinger was not developed properly and is played to high in the line up. I have ner seen a single poster say he should be playing more or on the first line. But the major seems to go out of his way to trash a 21 year old kid (like in a thread on Luke Kunin) which I don’t think is fair to do to a 21 year old kid. And saying a young guy with 29 points in 54 games can’t score is flat out wrong. At the same point in his career Chinakhov had 13 points in

This isn't a critique of Sillinger—just pointing out some clear facts, and I don't fault him for where he's currently placed. Then take shots at Evason and Waddell (and Jarmo and past coaches), not Sillinger. My problem is with falsely stating things like a 21 year old kid can’t score when he obviously can. If you want to post something like
“Evason is an idiot. He plays Sillinger higher in the line up than he should. Jarmo was an idiot. He should have let Sillinger develop in the AHL for at least a couple of seasons.”
I wouldn’t have any issues with it.
“He needs to improve when he has scoring chances” or “he needs to get in position to score more” or “he needs to receive passes better so he has more opportunities to score” are all valid critiques. Saying he can’t score is wrong. Saying it in the Luke Kunin thread is going out of his way to be critical of Sillinger. This isn't a critique of Sillinger—just pointing out some clear facts, and I don't fault him for where he's currently placed.
As for the scoring, whether you go by what you see or the analytics, take a look at how many high-danger chances he's had where he either missed the net entirely or opted to pass when he should have shot, or the other way around. That’s all part of hockey sense and scoring ability. It’s not meant to be degrading, just an area for improvement. For comparison, Fantilli had a tendency to over-skate the play, but he worked with veterans to adjust that aspect of his game. Just looking for some of this from Sillinger, who has more games.
