Player Discussion Cayden Primeau Part II

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

no chance unless one of our goalies gets hurt...

but I wouldn't be shocked to see him traded for a later pick.

Both the Pens and Flyers have bad goaltending situations and a lot of picks to work with. A 4th or 5th to see if he can build of this recent confidence-building stint in the AHL and get back on an NHL track might well be a worthwhile gamble for them

it cant hurt?

Pointless. Down the stretch we need to figure out what holes we have going into next year rather than hoping a plan comes together in training camp. Is Dobes a legit NHL backup or do we need to sign a vet for insurance, can Beck take over 3/4C, is Mailloux an NHL dman.

It's funny to see how many people are bought into Dobes being a regular NHL back up already. He's not ready for that.

People need to get over his hot start. He's been very shakey to bad for a few starts now.

I'd give Dobes one more start, if it's a stinker again recall Primeau.

Primeau could be a very (very) late bloomer but has shown next to nothing at the NHL level. Dobes might just need a chance to adapt to the shooters adapting to him.

Our defensive coverage has been shite last half dozen games as well

Only way it happens is if the team defense keeps falling apart and they aren't able to be competitive anymore. Then you send Dobes down to keep working on his game in the AHL level and spare his confidence.

Dobes has still been good, still some things to work on and learn at the pace of the game, but far too many grade A scoring chances given up since Guhle has gone down for either goalie. Monty let in 3 against the lowly Sharks and had to be spectacular on a sequence late in the 3rd to keep that one.

Kings score line doesn't look great but man he made some huge saves in the 3rd. They were atrocious defensively all game.

I'd say I'm surprised, but that would be lying.

The goalie knee jerking needs to be studied.

Why would they trade him for a late pick? He’s on a first place team that should go deep. Who the hell starts if they trade him? It’s totally not worth it.

Just drives up his trade value to a GM who thinks Primeau can be good on their team.

I’d trade him before calling him up but he’s best served in Laval and maybe help them win a championship there.

What message does that send to Dobes? Primeau had his chances. He blew them. His future is outside this organization.
Sorry but after 8 games what has he proven that he should not further his development in the AHL. Do you think he is ready?

Sends the message "you're a 23 years old goalie, you have more to learn". I don't see the problem.

That said, I don't see this happening. Primeau is tire fire in the NHL, and I don't believe HuGo want to embrace the tank that much at this point.

Trade him to some sucker GM who feels he never got a fair shot and has untapped potential. It happens, and we have two guys on our second line who prove it.

He blanked the Stanley Cup champions.

The team was patient enough with Primeau, If he wants another chance in the NHL, we should simply release him at the end of the season.

AHL goalie of the month...
He was always good in the AHL. This does not prove he should come back.

I'm no goalie expert myself, but I expect he'd need to show technical and mental improvements to the goalie coach(s) and management before he comes back, AHL results only tell one part of his story

I'm not saying he should come back. I think we should trade him.

were they not in first place before he got there?

don't think the Laval roster desperately needs Primeau to make or advance in the playoffs, getting an asset for him makes sense. I guess you might argue we could keep him and hope he has a great run in the AHL playoffs that might increase his value further, but IMO with the cap rising significantly in the summer, there will be a lot of proven NHL back ups/former starters that teams will be more comfortable adding or trading for so it's just as, if not more likely that we end up with nothing until he gets picked up on waivers next fall

So Hughes starts? That’s what you’re saying right? Geez.

Primeau's issue in the nhl this year has been mostly mental. So his performance in the ahl since being sent down should help him a lot at regaining confidence
lt is almost always mental with goaltenders that are his age.

I would absolutely call him up and send Dobes down. Dobes still has many technical issues and teams are starting to exploit him. Primeau is far more technically sound and clearly has regained his confidence.
