I understand that directing a rebound to your teammate or off to the boards if possible is control. Some goaltenders can block a shot so that it drops within feet of them and they can cover it. Dobes is pretty good at that. Many don't seem to have control over where it is going and their teammates have to fight to clear the puck.

I mean context plays an important part. Where is the shot coming from, is the goalie screened, is it a rebound, did it tip, the instructions from coaches, is it a east to west play etc.

Also, perhaps most importantly, where on their body and how the goaltender is stopping the puck.

Some parts of the body, and the equipment, allow for much more control than others.

The person I was responding seems to suggest that the defenders having to go and retrieve the rebound somehow indicated that the goaltender didn't have rebound control, which is absurd.

A goaltender with excellent rebound control might be steering pucks into the corners, might intentionally be kicking out a rebound, moving it further from the net when people have collapsed around them, etc.

His fundamental misunderstanding of what it meant somehow led him to believe that only a handful of NHL starters had good rebound control which is just a ridiculous claim.

Rebound control is an issue for Primeau but I’ve always been more concerned with how badly he’d put himself out of position. He was always able to make those hail mary saves in college but that doesn’t work in the pros.

It least if Primeau had a rebound it meant he stopped a shot to create a rebound.

Possibly, but he needs to kill it in the A with Laval.
For a goalie, his confidence seems shot........too bad I really thought he would have been better this year.

There seem to be technique and reflex issues. He let's in a lot of goals Glove hand and between the wickets - and everywhere else really.
