Burke discussing the Leafs and the rest of the NHL:http://www2.tsn.ca/window/podcastcentre/#id=17451 &id=17
shortened transcript here: http://mapleleafshotstove.com/2013/...ke-leafs-playoffs-reimer-canadiens-struggles/

So many quotes in this one!
On James Reimer - I believe in him, I said it all summer and no one would listen.- (no one as in, the BOG? was Burke fired in part because of his reluctance to get another goalie?)

- I haven’t watched Montreal a lot and I’ve been focusing on the Ducks, obviously as my primary team, so I probably couldn’t give real intelligent commentary but that’s never stopped me from offering an opinion before.- Classic Burke:yo:

Really looking forward to seeing where he ends up next. Still dont think he gets enough credit due to his unfortunate tendency to overshadow the team with his personality. Although maybe he wanted to divert attention away from how terrible we were once he first got here :sarcasm:

Whatever I did [in Toronto], whether you like it or not, Dave Nonis was a huge part of it, he was my right-hand man. So, if in fact people say “oh, this is Brian Burke’s team”, it’s got Dave Nonis’ fingerprints all over it. I’m not interested in who gets credit for what, I’m happy that they’ve made the playoffs and I wish them well. I think ownership is entitled to make changes when they want to, and I’ll move on.

Large ego my ass. He'll be a GM again in no-time.

Love it!

I really hope Burke stays out West.

this.

people laughed at me when i tweeted#bringburkeback when he was fired. he is a great GM people who dont see that just look at stats and base opinions on that (and dont follow closely enough to realize he was getting plug ins for his roster before prospects could step in)

imo he was fired because of RW and thats it.

in b4 this becomes another Burke bashing thread and about all the trades rather than this interview itself.

Hoping Burke is right when he said Reimer will be fine in playoffs. :yo:

I really hope Burke stays out West.

he'll end up in dallas once the season's over and they miss the playoffs. the new dallas stars owner is good friends with burke and the fact that nieuwendyk has failed to get the stars into the playoffs the last few years will be a good enough reason to fire him and hire burke.

Brian Burke deserves credit for this team. It is really really unfortunate that the owners got rid of him before Burke could enjoy the benefits of his hard work and all the crap he got from media and fans alike. Sad really.

Burke FTW. RESPECT! :yo:

I can see Burke going to one of: Philadelphia, Dallas or even San Jose if they underachieve again.

Typical Burke interview with lots of doublespeak once you get to know how Burke operates. First he comments how enforcers are needed for the team and then forgets how he waived Orr last year and brought in plenty of small players who lack grit. Nonis is the guy that cleared house (Connolly, Lombardi etc). Burke is that a silver tounged lawyer through and through.

Rather I think ownership got it 100% correct firing Burke. As soon as he was let go, the players, the media and the fan base really got behind the team. Burke was too much a distraction compared to Nonis who just blends into the background and lets the team define and develop their identity. The difference in leadership is apparent now that Burke is not in picture.

Difference - RW and RC. RW ruined this team and his good friend Brian Burke.

His biggest mistake was holding onto RW for so long.

But like he said, Dave Nonis did a lot in building this team, he was the one who basically created the whole Lupul Gardiner trade.

Still pissed off at his firing. This is Burke's team.

I like Burke as a person, his charitable work and the way he tried to change the culture in Toronto.

But let's not forget that he employed a joke of a coach far too long and Wilson would have not been fired had it not been for the fans calling for his head and basically forcing Burke's hand

To make it worse, Burke was happy to extend that puke for another year

Good riddance as a GM Burke - your community efforts did not go unnoticed
