Player Discussion Casey Mittelstadt

I heard a crazy rumour today that has Boston sending Mittelstadt ( no retention ) to the Rangers for Zibanejad ( no retention ) and the 43rd pick in the upcoming draft. I would hope that the Bruins would want no part of Zibanejad as his $8.5 million cap hit for 3 more seasons is way too much for adding just an early 2nd pick.

If this was remotely true I would think there would be more involved.

God no. Not Zibanejad. 🤮

There better be a lot more coming from the Rangers. That MZ contract is toxic. 5 more years
You're right - I thought his contract had only 3 more years left but having 5 more years left makes it so much worse. I don't think I'd do that for a 1st round pick. Don't do it Donny. :thumbd:

EDIT: Zibanejad actually has 5 more seasons left with an $8.5 million cap hit. Stay away Donny.......stay far away.

Was just looking at stats around the league. What happened with Casey Mittelstadt? 6 points in 18 games and -17?? Was the team just playing really bad post TDL or was Casey terrible?

He was pretty good at the beginning.... Like, legitimately had be me convinced he was a player.

Basically if you weren't playing with Pastrnak after the deadline, you weren't producing points. Those 4 goals/6 points were good enough for 4th in goals and 5th in points over that span among forwards... It was a depressing stretch for essentially everyone but the top line.

I'd rather he have a killer offseason and find his game in camp.Big holes in the roster- they need him.

I just see him as such a negative defensively that whatever he gives you on offense will be voided out.

If he’s getting Top 6 minutes, which at the current moment he is the de facto 2nd line center, they’re going to get dummied.

Granted, signing Marner who’s a stud defensive forward, would offset it a bit and give them a legit 2nd liner.

I guess my main issue here is that the 2nd line doesn’t have talent on it to make up for a guy like Mittelstadt.

Some of it will depend on whether the next coach gives him power play time. Most coaches will give it out of expediency in a situation like this.

They don't have the talent to make up for him like he played last year- he needs to take another step. But it's easier to find some talent to play along side him than it is to go find 2+ pieces and build from scratch.

He’ll be 27 most of next season and has played 450 games. Most likely he is what his performance so far says he is. A 40ish point center with serious defensive deficiencies and little hustle and physicality.

They’d have to give up value to trade out his remaining 2 years at $5.75M, so I am sure he stays and we all just hope for the best.

I saw this suggested on twitter and found the idea intriguing. Rossi wants out there so Rossi for Mittelstadt with some sort of picks to balance it out. Minnesota (and Casey) might really like this as he's from there and thus it would be worth kicking the tires on if I was Sweeney.

I would think if the Bruins make a play for Rossi, that would make Poitras expendable as trade bait.

Rossi puts up points, but he's small, only about average speed, and doesn't really engage physically. Kind of a hard player to predict what kind of career arc he'll have. He's still super young.
