Player Discussion Casey Mittelstadt

He is a floater who winds her up about once every five shifts. I can't stand him. He wastes good hands and vision. I would say he wastes good speed too, but since he tries one fifth of the time, it is hard to tell if he really has any speed.
Funny you say this, because at times I see that number 11 flying in there forcing the d-man to make a play and I say to myself "wow" Frederic has some jump in his game today.

Yeah, he isn't a floater. He's trying hard out there. Again, I am not interested in judging what he will be for the Bruins based on the current state of the team.

Consider the source of the floater comment. He definitely does not float. He's getting saddled with two 4th liners/AHL tweeners and expected to do something with them because they're all from Minnesota. Ridiculous.

Or is this team trying to lose? I feel like having their two best defenders injured and trading away three key pieces to the roster has propelled them to the bottom. Next season this team probably doesn’t have a chance at a top 5 pick. This might be the year for them to crash and burn for 20 games.

Exactly how I see it

They trade 4 regulars in Frederic, Carlo, Coyle, and Marchand, and haven’t had Lindholm since November - and lose McAvoy.

It’s jarring to the team clearly.

Swayman has never got on track

2 weeks left that’s it ~ crash and burn and get a top 5 pick

Oh I'm on the other side - this is a time for a bunch of guys to show the team what they are. The tweeners need to show they can play an NHL game and new guys like Mittlestadt and Jokiharju need to show they're worth keeping and building around.

Think this is exactly the time to judge those guys.

Mittlestadt isn't going anywhere anytime soon- he was the primary get for Charlie Coyle. If he is playing poorly next season after a full camp and a set of appropriate linemates, then yeah, it's a problem. Jokiharju is due a new deal, but I also don't believe they acquired him thinking they'll let him walk at the end of the season, and I don't think he's been terrible anyway.

As to the rest, what are you expecting them to show you? Lohrei is being asked to play over his head nightly and he's not been good for the most part. Not worth keeping? Lysell is a playmaker not being put on a line with a legit finisher so he's not producing. Not worth keeping? I want to keep them both.

We'll just have to be on the opposite sides of this one.

To me its about the team making decisions about the roster this summer. Can Mittlestadt be a top 6 center? Can Jokiharju fill in on d or will they have to look elsewhere for those spots.

The tweeners are guys like Lauko, Lysell, and aKunstadinov (sp). Maybe they give looks to Minten and Poitras again.

Its a time for these guys to show what they have so the team can make some decisions.

The rest of the team IMO it doesn't matter much one way or another, they already know what they can bring at the NHL level.

I don't disagree on the tweeners necessarily- they need to show they can play in the league at least, but I don't expect them to look great doing it. But since this is Mittlestadt's thread, I'll just say that based on his current and most frequent linemates, how can we know the bolded above yet? Lettieri and Koepke as wings for a playmaking center? Connor McDavid would have a hard time making that pair look good.

If he can show that he can drive a line it would go a long way. Lindholm is centering the same caliber wings and trying to do the same so maybe it can give them an indication of who's better suited to be where in the lineup.

Point is that he's new to the club and this is the best time to make an impression, regardless of who he's playing with.

It is not like Coyle was (or is) doing any better. Avs fans already talking about getting rid of his contract for next year. Mittelstad has lost his confidence, has had an atrocius season. Before that, he had 2 great seasons , scoring +-60 pts on 2nd/3rd line and mostly without prime pp time. This is a great trade for Boston, even more if you had the pick.

the way i look at that trade, the primary gets were the 2nd, will MF zellers and getting rid of
coyle. mittens was an interesting piece of it, but no guarantees he's part of the future.

I’ve always like Mittlestadt and feel he can be a 50-60 point player for the next 4-5 years, but given his contract and him just not fitting in Colorado, That they were really happy to get rid of him, but the best player in the deal just may have been the cherry on top in Zellers and in the long run he’ll end up being just that, the primary player in this deal.

Job well done by Sweeney this deadline!
