Confirmed with Link: Oilers sign David Tomasek

Fantastic player, I would see him more of a winger since the defensive game is somewhat lacking in SHL and would also be the case in NHL. Also, he was totally invisible during last years play-off games and similar this year in the SHL but in the world cup he was clutch so I guess we will have to see what he brings.

Fantastic vision, shot and very irrational when moving into the offensive zone, he can deke out 2-3 guys and look like he just walked right through them. Bad sides is that is tilts quite easily and takes stupid penalties sometimes cause of it. Could and should play in one of your PP's and top 9 role on a wing.

An alright signing, I understand why the oilers are looking everywhere they can for players with how empty their farm is. But I mean he's 29, not a lot of growth going to happen with him. Its only a year so not a lot of risk, I kinda just wish they would stop filling cap with these older players trying to squeeze whatever they can from them.

This team is already old, some youth and speed would be ideal. Also having more cap space is probably more valuable for next years deadline and the future to add meaningful players than just bringing in old players who dont fit anywhere else. Maybe im wrong, hopefully he has a fantastic year.

Seems like Knob will hate him lol

However this is a great strategy for a team limited on picks and cap space. I still think you can unearth some gems in Europe but it will really comes down to their scouting ability.

I can speak a bit on Tomasek as he has played for my hometown team here in Sweden for the past 2 years and ive watched him play live 10-12 times.

He is talented, has great hands, good shot that is smart more than anything else, he has very good aim and even has a good slap shot, good puck control, good at dangling. Especially good at slowing the game down and creating space for himself, and has great vision.
He is not very fast, decently so, but pretty mediocre skater.
Not great defensively, a bit lazy in that aspect.

And for both playoffs here when the games intensity goes up and there is less space, he has fallen off a cliff, not able to really do any of the things he is able to do during regular season play.

I have fairly strong doubt he will work out in the NHL, he is a top-6 forward, he isnt physical, isnt defensively sound, and if he doesnt get to play in a top-6 role I struggle to see how he will be effective. Maybe he could work on an offensive third line but thats not really Knoblauchs game.

Thats said, as a Färjestad and Oilers fan, this is pretty sick and I look forward to seeing what he can do over there, I just dont have high hopes he'll succeed.

Feel free to ask any questions!

Based on everything you said in this post, Knob is going to absolutely hate this player.

They're not really adding cap hit with this. If he works out in a top 9 role they're getting a guy who costs low end 4th line money. If he doesn't work out they can bury him for $50000 cap hit.

29 with no NHL miles isn't really old. It's the same age Derek Ryan came over.

lol you are talking like he’s 35.

Free Stuff!!

Oil have a lot of work to do to build up its talent pipeline. Aggressive shots at European players have to be part of sifting for legitimate NHL depth. Looking at the video, there seems to be a lot of mid-range shots that finish, PP time advantages, and shootout dekes. I'm not sure how/if these translate against NHL goaltending. I'd like to see other elements of his game to see if this is a two-way player.

But mature right shot centre/wing with reasonably solid Euro pro numbers is well worth a low risk to find out. Keep looking Stan. There's lots of shopping still to do. :)
