Drafting forward over D this year didn't hurt us, drafting 2 forwards in the top 40 last year did...

Originally wasn't too happy because he couldn't do a pull-up but we could use more speed so I'll take a chance on him

Hurt us how? Were we going to the playoffs if we took a D instead of Asplund?

I don't give a **** where he was rated. He's a soft, perimeter, east-west player. Combine that, with softy Nylander, the organizational derth of D. I have no ****ing idea what they think they're building, but it isn't a winner.

I haven't seen him described as soft anywhere and that doesn't match what I've seen of him. Nor do I see a perimeter guy - he gets to dirty areas even without gym strength and has the hands to do something in those places.

Some of you people are reminding me of why I rarely participate here anymore. So many ripping on the musical tastes of a CHILD. It's embarrassing.

I remember watching him at the U18s 2 years ago and thought he had Patty Kane type hands.

wow, so many posters who hate this pick, don't seem to have a handle on how to describe him.

Marner was also a "perimeter" player, but that wasn't a knock on him. But both guys know when to attack the net and when not to get tied up in the traffic to jump on pucks.

My god the overreaction over this pick is ridiculous. There's a reason Botterill is the GM and not any of us. Yes we needed D, but every GM that gives an interview says you go BPA in the first. We will address the D via trade and free agency, I'm sure.

Tim Murray said he would address that too.

We ended up with Franson and Kulikov...........

Just watched some film on him. The quality that stood out the most to me is that he doesn't rush anything. He stays patient whether looking for an open teammate or waiting for the goalie to show an opening. He just looks calm but with quick hands and decision making when the opportunity presents itself.

I don't like the pick but I agree that its BPA.

The d-man won't step in immediately. You never know who/what you will need by the time the prospects are ready. And, worse case scenario you draft a great position at the wrong position, you can trade someone.

He's got hands. I don't think anyone can deny that. Which is nice, because the Sabres don't really have many prospects like that. He's got tons of upside. Let's see how it goes.

...and when that didn't work, even though the Franson signing worked once given correct minutes and Kulikov had an unlucky season, Murray and Botterill both have addressed the D before free agency began...

We did get Beaulieu and Antipan.

Also, I've cooled off a little, let me formally apologize and say that I'll give Mittelstadt a chance. He probably won't be as bad as I originally thought.
