Rumor: Carson Soucy available for trade, per Dhaliwal and Friedman

Soucy at 1.75 millions or whatever half would be is worth a lot. Obviously the Canucks wouldn't want to retain for two years. But I could see Soucy returning a first and another minor asset. Which would be a good return if the cap can be juggled next year.

It's hard to know if you can juggle the cap if you're hunting UFAs though. So I can see why they want to avoid this.
IIRC, next year is when the big part of the OEL buyout kicks in so I’d think that JR/PA would definitely prefer not to retain due to that. However, if retention gives them a good enough pick then that should be on the table, especially if there aren’t any big ticket UFA’s that they might want or think they could get.

there are people you play fantasy hockey with that makes a deal every 3 weeks, and updates his tradeblock every night.

Allvin is that guy.

no reason to move him. Imo should let D-Petey cook in the minors. Soucy was a beast playing #4-5 minutes. With M-Petey, he’ll be back down to those minutes and should bounce back. May as well rebuild his value.

Worst case some team will take him in the off-season as a bounce back project if he doesn’t do it here in the next few months

Trading him would be a mistake, I’m convinced he turned the chaos Giraff back into an NHL player. Said Giraff has impacted him this year and given a different partner he would be showing much better.

That said if it gets you a top 4 RHD that can play with Hughes or Pettersson than I am all for it. But he is a solid #5 imo and paid as such.

Was he team JTMiller?

I would imagine after Rutherford's comments that you can't fix the room with a single trade means we see the Miller faction guys jettisoned by the deadline. That's speculation on my part but seems logical, no?

Down year, I'd say play wise with the remaining year/cap hit he likely doesn't have much value but some dumb GM might pay a stupid price as he's huge D man, there's always a market for these guys.

The D - Elias Pettersson has played 3 games, Hughes is injured. I think there's more to his availability then just the Marcus Pettersson trade.

Don't think that has anything to do with it. Soucy has just been hot garbage this year and is already passed by on the depth chart by rookie D-Pettersson

Soucy just sucks. Alot

Fair enough, I know he's struggled but also he lead the D core in games played this season. Teams going for a playoff spot don't usually trade away their D depth. Maybe I read too much into it.

He is a good player having a bad season.
You’re not gonna get any proper value for him, he’s probably gonna go for like a fifth round draft pick to whatever team that’s interested that’s a playoff team

People saying a 1st or 2nd seem ludicrous to me. I'd say it's a 4th round pick or a 5th and some AHLer.
Imo clearing Soucy’s contract is pretty much what Van wants out of this. Maybe there is a club that Van can move Soucy to but he prefers not to? Maybe Van waives him and that team picks him up anyway? He has a no trade, and not a no move.

If we were looking for a player like this to add depth for a playoff run, we would have to pay a second and a prospect

Another great example of a player who can give you solid minutes as a sidekick in a Top 4 even, but like the other Ben Chiarot’s of the world, ask him to take on more responsibilities, he’s just not good enough.

He’d be a really solid partner for a young Dman who needs some protection, but NOT to “carry” the pairing. For example, he’d be a really good partner for a Byrum in a Top 4. A Seider even, like Ben Chiarot is right now. I’d say a Simon Edvinsson too, but what Albert Johansson is doing these days, don’t touch that pairing.

At 6’5”, teams will try finding that type of a role for him. He and Myers have the same issue. Neither of them can “carry” that pairing. So they both look at each other, thinking the other guy is going to take lead, and neither ever does. Neither are capable. Injuries haven’t helped either.

Good bet he’s the player on his way out of town next. It’s just not working and his spot in the Top 4 just disappeared. He can play both sides without a hiccup so that always helps to find a spot. It just didn’t work in Vancouver.

This just seems so cut and dry to me that you make it known he's available if you want, any one willing to give a 2nd or better makes the deal, otherwise you keep him. Is he worth a 2nd? No, but it's not worth losing him for less at his price point.

If some GM adores him for whatever reason, and is willing to go for it, well then fine
