I think we fans (me included) are a bit bi-polar when it comes to players and how they are treated.

Last year, when TT was struggling, there were a number of posters saying that Rod "demoting" him and not giving him first PP unit time was hurting his confidence and unfair to TT and making it worse.

This year, many of us are saying he should demote Necas because he's struggling right now.

I don't claim to know the right answer and certainly don't think RBA is perfect, but there's more to it than just how we fans see a player performing at a moment.

I remember a few years ago, a bunch of us questioned why Mrazek was kept in a particular game when he gave up a bunch of goals early. Canes came back and won it and there was a story later where the players came up to Mrazek at break and said "our fault, we got your back" (paraphrasing).

Point being, every player is different and their psyche is different. Coaches have to account for that. If I was coach, I'd try to build a young players confidence right now (Necas or Svech who are stuggling) as we will need them more in the playoffs. Not an easy call though. People forget that Necas and Svech carried us early last season when others struggled.

I’d think the reference should be florida road game.
This. Let's not get hasty - the matchups are a thing and the Tkachuck line exposed these two like a hooker lifting her skirt for a john.

I'm all for Chatty. I think the dude needs to be extended. I think that Orlov's improvement has been squarely on Chat coming in.

But that pair got cleaned out in Sunrise, period. I was at the TB game and they didn't get any hard matchups, and I *DID* see Orlov get smoked twice by McCloud when we played the Oil.

Is it better than 7/77? Hell being on the PK might be better than 7/77. But the fact remains this pair got walked in Sunrise.

It was 1 game

In the whole 131 minutes Orlov and Chatty have played together in 5v5 this season, 63% CF, 6 GF, 2 GA, 5.6 xGF, 3 xGA, with a 63% o zone start.

Our roster players aren’t getting traded. We will add even if its bottom of the roster players. Chatfield isn’t replacing Pesce this season. Likely not even next season.

Chatfield is a fringe top 4 for a bad defensive team, not a good one

While I agree on Chatfield the thing is someone will over pay him in the off season. Extending him or keeping him now will be a better deal..

Burns continues this he will be basically useless next year which is sad. He already looks out of place on the pp.

Wow. I didn't expect that attitude at all
Same here.

Here's the full quote for those that don't click on the twitter link.

"I'm just blessed to be in a place where I have a coach who takes great care of me. You can always tell the difference between when a guy cares and when he doesn't. You can tell Roddy cares about us as people and players. I've got all the time in the world for a coach like that.
I'm happy to be here and to be with this group. It's a deep group that I want to help contribute later this season and in the playoffs. If it means sitting out games and waiting for my chance, then so be it.
I'm going to try and push the group and give everybody a laugh off the ice. I'm going to enjoy my time contributing and being a depth guy."

Last year I was Hell no on trading Necas.

now? man IDK. It seems like he is another Skinner without the scoring and cherry picking.

Necas is my favorite Cane to watch right now....mainly b/c you have no idea wth he is going to do....he's a big wildcard. I don't think Rod enjoys wildcards LOL.

That said I think Necas should outscore Jarvis this season and has the higher ceiling (I may be selling Jarvis short...Jarvis also has the benefit is playing with Aho and TT). He still has amazing tools. He has insane speed, great passing (when he isn't trying to dangle the entire opposition), and is one of two Canes (the other being coconut) who can stickhandle into the o zone for a pp entry. He also has a pretty good shot. He's the only threat for a one timer on the pp as well (even if it isn't world class)

His problem is clearly his decision making. He doesn't know when to dangle, when to dump, when to pass, and when to shoot. I'm a firm believer that with time decision making should improve. That said he's not a rookie anymore and I could see him being the odd man out if they look for an offensive upgrade that is very high end or fits RBAs system better.

Necas chemistry was mostly with Svech who has not been great this year. I think that has impacted Necas results and has him playing more hero puck. I think the only reason to move on from Necas is as a part of a package if you get a clear upgrade from a team looking to shake things up.
