After watching Finland-USA, it would be pretty cool to see Aho and Laine continue their chemistry together in the NHL. I understand that Aho has seen his stock rise and looks like a high quality player. Kyle Connor is our best forward prospect not named Laine. Dude just had a beast season in the NCAA. How close is this trade.

To WPG:
Aho

To CAR:
Connor

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand proceed to tell me how dumb I am.

Surprised a Jets fan proposed to this to be honest. I think both teams would rather stick with what they got. But value wise isn't Connor still a better prospect? It's not like Aho is the only player in the world that can play with Laine.

It was just a thought. I love Connor as a prospect and fully intend to see him in a Jets jersey for many years to come.

Second guessing myself on what kind of value Aho has now. I thought he reached the "Blue Chip" level from some of the stuff I was reading.

If I am wrong, I have fully earned the roasting coming my way lol.

It's not dumb, both players have great promise. Draft position is a snapshot in time, prospects are still developing, situations change so an Aho for Connor trade is not 'crazy talk'.

I think you could make the case that either prospect is better.

Connor was picked higher but Aho definitely went later than he should have.

Very interesting proposal.

Nah, it's a fair proposal. No roasting necessary. Especially considering 99% of the threads on this forum are pure and utter trash.

I don't see either team making this deal. Blue chippers don't get moved in deals like this. And it's not like neither team has an abundance of those prospects, so... yeah. As a Finnish Jets fan, hoping all the best for Aho and Connor. :)

kudos to OP...value for value proposal....but, I don't see either team signing up for it. Both teams probably really like their guy and just roll with what they already have...

Carolina prolly has more Finns in the system time to switch allegiance. :)

Only works out if we trade Scheifele for Barkov, too. We'd dominate every exhibition game.

Not sure I agree there. The Jets currently have Ehlers and Laine on wing, and we have quite a few other high potential wingers coming down the pipe. It would be nice to get a prospect that is a true center who is ready to play 3C with the intent of taking the torch from little when the day comes. But I'm not all that sure of Carolinas needs up front.

No from Carolina, Aho is a genius + our org thinks very highly of him

Value isn't even that bad (even though objectively I'd rate Aho better) but both teams are emotionally invested in their guys.

Top Prospect for top prospect trades rarely work on here and even IRL because teams and fans generally think their prospects are better than they actually are.

I personally don't think that's it. I think they rarely work on here for the same reason they rarely happen in real life. Teams draft a guy because the guy has certain qualities that appeal to them. That rarely changes in 1 year and especially, in a case like Connor and Aho, when they do even better in their draft+1 year, there is no incentive to try to move 1 prospect for another in a lateral move. They want to see how they will develop further.

Down the road, once a team then puts in the time and effort to develop said player, they further don't want to trade a guy that they've invested in unless it fills a different need (ie..trading a forward for defense, acquiring a veteran guy to put them over the hump, etc...) or there are "other" issues.

Connor for Aho right now really doesn't serve a purpose for either team IMO.

EDIT: Credit to the OP though. I've been waiting for an Aho to WPG or Aho to CLB proposal and fully expected either a lesser prospect and some later draft picks -OR- and older player to be the offered return. At least you made a fair proposal, value-wise.

I don't know how you could possibly say Aho is "objectively better" when Connor just dominated the NCAA as a u19 in a way that hasn't happened in about 25 years.

As a Canes fan and an English major, the more appropriate statement would have been that he's "subjectively" better.

We all like our guys. Conner had an amazing year in the NCAA. Aho had an equally amazing year in the Liiga.

I just don't see a reason to do this trade.

I think the value is relatively close. I think both teams would be reluctant, but there's a chance that they value the players differently than fans and other commentators. Still, I think both teams are very high on their prospect and would probably not want to take the risk.

Kyle Connor is still regarded as a top-notch prospect, and has considerably higher value than Aho. I understand Aho's stock has skyrocketed in the last year, but Connor is still regarded as the better player now and in the future. And this is from a fan of neither of these teams.

Who specifically regards him as this? I'm not disagreeing with you, but would like to see where this exists. Most of the "lists" I've seen have them only separated by a couple of slots so that's why I ask.

I'll admit I use the Hockey News Future Watch quite a bit, and it has Connor rated pretty highly (don't have my copy with me so I'm not sure what the number is). I also watch a lot of hockey and listen to radio shows, and I've heard them rave about Connor more so than Aho. I understand none of this is objective, and all heresay, but I think the hockey community generally prefers Connor as a prospect.
