The Canes have their RNH in the form of Jordan Staal. I'm not sure they need another. They need an offense first type guy.

I’m curious. If Faulk is now overrated because of a disappointing ~quarter-season, what do you make of RNH and his start offensively? Is it fair to label him as an average to above-average 3C at this point?

No, because if you look at his stats he is clearly a 2nd line center.

For the record, I don't agree that Faulk is overrated. He's a really good player.

Yes RNH is Struggling but he plays against the best lines and he is a 2C as well. Not trying to sell him as a 1C.
There would be a plus and the OP is asking what the plus would be.
Draisaitl would never be traded for anyone short of being a Legit top pairing RH Defender.

Umm, that's exactly what Justin Faulk is. On a great contract also. Nevermind he's anchored a top pairing with Sekera who played the best hockey of his career with him.

I'd gladly keep RNH and move Draisaitl for Faulk...after the expansion draft.

I think Slavin is the last dman they would trade.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!!!!

Another Canes fan reflected on Pesce possibly being available, but I doubt that. Currently Slavin/Pesce is the Hurricanes shut down pairing with Pesce improving seemingly every game. I'm not going to go crazy and make some over-zealous comparison, but he's a darn good RHD who is expansion protected and likely has a little untapped offensive upside.

Personally, I think that the only blueliner's in the Canes organization that would even be remotely available are on the Checkers roster.

I understand you.

If we had a 24 yr, RD on a excellent contract who can put up 40+ points we wouldn't move him either.

I just find it amusing how some of my fellow Oilers fans are so dead set against trading Draisaitl. McDavid is better offensively, RNH is better defensively. We have nothing but size on the wingers now in Lucic, Kassian, Maroon, Puljujarvi. Yet Draisaitl is held so high over RNH for his size/skill which isn't a need for us as much as a PMD RD that's signed and top pairing.

D zone starts:
Klefbom - Larrson

O zone starts:
Sekera - Faulk

Faulk would be easily capable of replicating his 49 point season feeding McDavid.

They have a center who is producing well offensively, his name is Victor Rask. Center doesn't appear on paper to be a need for Carolina at all. They should be able to fix their biggest holes without trading a Faulk type player.

Would he? Or would he be another Sekera who also put up 40+ points in Carolina and was never able to replicate it elsewhere?

Sekera was/has always been a #3 defenceman who's on the wrong side of 30 now.

Faulk is a top pairing RD who's average the last 3 years is a 40 point per season pace and he's 24 years old.

I believe the answer to be yes, he's more than capable.

Ryan Nugent Hopkins +

For

Justin Faulk

What is the plus on the Oilers side if there is a plus.
Justin Faulk was underrated but now because of his -7 and his lack luster performance, I cannot help but think he is now overrated. He has 34 hits, 50 shots on goal, and 7 points in 19 games. On pace for roughly 28 points. He is not looking like he is worth what the fans of Carolina were asking for last season, Leon Draisaitl.
So staal is out and the Hurricanes are in need of a Centre. Ryan Nugent Hopkins is on the table, what is added to get Faulk to the Oilers?

I will start with a Nuge + Reinhart or Nuge + Caleb Jones or Ethan Bear + 3 round pick.

What would it take to pry Noah Hannifan as well?

Do you think the Canes have built the talent on the blue line to gift it to you. Your offers are far below what it would take even if the Canes did want to move him. RNH could not be the starting piece in a deal for Faulk. Then you go double nuts and ask Noah Hanifan. Yea dream on.

Your funny cause Faulk is just what you state you would want to move Draisaiti. A legit top pairing defenseman You must have nearly died when the Hall trade happened with the over value you have on all your guys and the under valuing of all players that don't wear Oiler jerseys.

It would a big plus, Faulk is a stud and I doubt Cane fans want to give him up anyways

Your 100% right. And on top of what you stated RNH can not land a true top pairing guy like Faulk while LD maybe could get a GM to bite. The Oilers would be such a better team if they landed Faulk for LD.

The big difference is Faulk made Sekera shine and Faulk shined before, during and after playing with Sekera. Faulk >>>>Sekera.

deals like this, of very young big stars hardly ever happen

but Jones<>Johansen made them seem feasible
that deal had extreme circumstances - Johansen's contract and relationship with CBJ brass, and Nashville's obscene depth on D

That and the Unexpected Twist of Kekalainen's faith in Alex Wennberg, which so far this year is looking justified.
