Carolina spends to the cap. They just don't overpay older players, which is why they are always a player for big name free agents. So less than what he is going to get open market?
Stay cheap, Carolina lmao

The league probably wouldn’t even allow thatCome back to COL please.
I think it ends up low 13s with Carolina. 15 for 7 years would be $105M. That same $105M over 8 years is $13.125.Yeah I'd be a bit stunned if he takes 12.5 right away so if it ends up at 13/14 it won't be much of a surprise. The nice part is that they have his (presumed) center in Aho also locked up for another 7 years so they won't have to worry about re-upping him in a year or two and needing to match Rantanen's number.
Offseason via UFA it would have to be, but hypothetically, could we re-trade for him this season? The league probably wouldn’t even allow that
There is no reason for them to stop him. No rules against trading a pending UFA and then re-signing him that summer. We used to call that situation "The Tkachuk", because it happened to Keith so often. The league probably wouldn’t even allow that
I'm not up on the current CBA, but the rule used to be, that if a team trades for a player who they traded out earlier in the year, that player would be ineligible to play in the playoffs. I imagine it is still an active rule in some capacity, but I won't quote the CBA for sure.Offseason via UFA it would have to be, but hypothetically, could we re-trade for him this season?
Probably accurate. Would be funny to see Mikko not click in CAR then COL trades Ritchie and 2nd for him back and obv comes out of it all with Rants, Necas, and Drury. There is no reason for them to stop him. It would be funny, as Mikko would have to watch the rest of the Aves play for the Cup from the press box.Probably accurate. Would be funny to see Mikko not click in CAR then COL trades Ritchie and 2nd for him back and obv comes out of it all with Rants, Necas, and Drury.
Miller…no thank you.Risky deal the Cane's made. Not sure it's enough $$ to sign him. Losing him in the off season ...or trading him for less than what they paid to get him would be a huge kick in the arse.
They should have made a trade for Pettersson/Miller instead.
