If Mikko rejects it, he will be the most sought after UFA at the deadline.
Kypreos said it's possible Rantanen goes back to Colorado this summer.

Jets should be in on him as a pure rental if he doesn't sign that. Would be hilarious to have him on our roster if we get Colorado in the playoffs
It's 20% right?Whats the max you can get next year ?
Would be even more hilarious if the avs clap the Jets againJets should be in on him as a pure rental if he doesn't sign that. Would be hilarious to have him on our roster if we get Colorado in the playoffs
I think Rantanen is going to feel too emotional/disturbed by the Colorado negotiations/trade to be rushed into signing with Carolina.
Feels like Hurricanes need to approach this with a soft touch to get it done—and instead there has already been too much brinkmanship through the media.
In the last couple days we’ve now seen leaked what they are offering or heard that they may yet flip him if he doesn’t sign.
Feels like they are trying to nudge him with a sledgehammer.
As a hab fans that hasn't seen top end talent for the Habs really I'd be fine with them offering him 15, 15.5 a year for 7It's 20% right?
So 20% of $95.5M = $19.1M
I don't think Rantanen can take that kind of number. But he can set a new precedent for the next tier if he wants to. Like in the $14-15M tier? Which will still temporarily put him #1 in the league.
McDavid is going to blast past all that if he wants to with the first $20M AAV next year.
I mean considering that they didn't meet Guentzel's ask until he was already on the way out, count me skeptical at this.
8 years at $13 million a year should get it done but I'm skeptical the Canes will do it.

$100 million for a guy about to exit his prime, what could go wrong…
...while I don't think he's gonna be worth his MASSIVE contract, he's 28, not 38...![]()
Thats why it's I and they won't.
