Murphy is one of our few players who shows sign of competency on the puck. Sitting him, if healthy, was a gaff by Kirk. That third goal was about the worst hockey you will ever see. A player cant skate it out of our zone, sends a bad pass up to Terry. The pass inexplicably makes it to Terry who miss plays it. Then after the turnover the puck goes to the far side of the ice and our ****ing defensemen head for the bench and a change. ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING?

I think were gonna have to find a competent player via trade that can actually skate the puck out of our zone under pressure. Joni's skills are missed big time.

Plus, even going 4-1-1 in the last 6 doesn't offset the 5 straight losses before that streak.

This team loves to make it difficult/impossible

The difference is that they're playing mostly competent team defense these past 6 games, aside from stupid turnovers. They're trending up and seem to be developing an actual team identity.

Might just be me, but I can't see it lasting. This team has been too mentally fragile in the past, even in this season, and it's just happened too often to expect it any different.

On the other hand, you can't tell me that Eric Staal and Alex Semin are going to continue to score at a 40 point pace for the rest of the season. Or the team that has finished average or above average in goals per game for the last decade or so is suddenly going to finish 28th in the League.

So knowing this team, the first line will suddenly find its magic again, just in time for the depth scoring to disappear and/or the defense to suddenly realize they're not allowed to be this competent.

As much as this playstyle appears to be working for the team, it really might just be because Peters is in net. When Ward returns, the team could easily fall into their old habits because of the belief (misguided or not) that he'll just bail them out if they screw up.

I hope not and they continue to play stellar defense in front of Ward, but again, history favors the opposite.

Our wins were barely wins. We've been outplayed on a nightly basis. As much as I prefer this over losing, the home stretch was full of emptiness for me.

I probably need to cancel my recent subscription to the "Meth Batch of the Month" Club, but I'm hoping that Ward takes more cues from the team on his return, than the team takes from his return.

yep, pretty much just squeaking by and Peters playing well. not sustainable IMO but so be it, we'll see.

may have/should have gotten a point out of last night. ridiculous, some stuff that they do. scratching Murphy unless he is harboring some nagging injury was just a bad decision, pure and simple. I haven't heard one rationale that makes sense. Gleason? really stuck there. Komi? put in against the Blues (as a winger no less) because he's been practising and hasn't complained?

that hit on Semin was boarder-line. looks like a concussion to me. we'll see how severe it turns out to be if so. I call bs on Staal not noticing it. BS. what was it, a couple of weeks ago when he was boarded, that Semin, the least confrontational at least pushed the guy. like has been said, if that happens on another team, there would have been an immediate reaction of some kind. BS captain...... and I don't care what Tripp says, that elbow by Harrison had nothing to do with the hit on Semin. if it did, it was just plain stupid.

Squeaking by? They beat two of the West's best, took another to the shootout, shutout the Islanders and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, terrible opponent or not. All without their starting goaltender or leading scorer. You guys have some lofty expectations.

This.

Is it so bad that it's mid-November and the team hasn't torpedoed the season like in years past? If they were at the bottom of the standings with the key injuries and tough schedule, THEN it would be "same **** different season."

.500 with everything that's gone wrong is a very positive sign.

Yep.

Life isn't easy for the "lack of effort!/Muller sux!" crowd.

Taking 9 out of 10 possible points on a home stand where you had to face legit competition? Meaningless and unsustainable.

Sit young Murphy/Fail to instigate a fight or whine to an official after a hit/skate Gleason? Complete and utter failure of the franchise from the top to the bottom.

Squeaking by in the sense that we're next to last in the league in goals scored. We haven't scored more than two goals all November. The last game with more than two was Oct. 19 vs. the Isles, nearly a month ago. All season, primarily post-Skinner injury, our offense hasn't worked.

For the most part these wins have been the result of us being outplayed, getting lucky and grabbing a couple, and then winning by one goal. I understand a win is a win but this type of play isn't going to be sustainable for long.

We're also severely limiting the prime scoring opportunities of the opposition at ES. We let them take pot shots on Peters, then have everyone converge on the rebound. It's boring, Ping-Pong hockey, but it is working against some of the most potent offenses in the NHL.

There is more than one way to win a hockey game.
