Oh, is the sky falling again? Is the season over? Kill/trade everyone, am I right? They will never be good again. 5 game winning streak? LOL they just lost to another team (because, you know, it's not like they have a say or anything).

This board gives me a headache.

I could give less than a **** about the last 5 games. They meant nothing tonight. Tonight the Canes needed to win in order to stay in the top 8. They didn't, and they didn't. Every single time this team has the chance to put themselves in a good position, they blow it.

Serge stood on his head, ok, maybe 10 quality shots... but a rested team, a desperate team.. I knew they owned us, but 7 in a row, thats unacceptable

This board gives me a headache.
Yup, a couple of advil should do the job.

You do realize that 5-game winning streak came after a 5-game losing streak, right? Just like earlier in the season, when they lost 5 straight, then earned a point in 5 straight, then lost 4 straight after that.

This team is unbelievably consistent in their inconsistency. Almost like a certain captain we know.

It really is just too bad that the season is over. Just too bad. It would have been nice to avenge this one loss, but I guess since the season is over, it's time to pack it all in.

Sarcasm aside, you don't see the issue with tonight's game? It's like KFS said, everytime this team has a chance to put themselves in a position to succeed (whether it's in-game or in the standings), they shoot themselves in the foot.

Given the way this season has played out, they'll beat Calgary and the Panthers, then lose against Tampa and the Flyers. They should beat the Sabres, but they won't, which will eat at them and cause them to lose the Ottawa game. Then we've got the Jackets again, and we know how that'll end up. Guess what? That's another 5-game losing streak.

Tell me that's not a perfect narrative of how this team plays out their seasons.

I'm pretty sure they put themselves in a position to succeed by winning five straight. But you're right, let's discount that for no good reason.

I'm pretty sure some of you expect them to win every game. How do you do it?

They didn't put themselves into a position to succeed. They simply dug themselves out of the hole they put themselves in in the 5 games before that.

Putting themselves in a position to succeed would be to win 5 straight WITHOUT losing the previous 5 games. Then they've got some wiggle room in the standings that allow them to lose games like tonight without putting their playoff chances in danger.

Sometimes it's just not your night. This game was basically sunk by an AHL'er making an AHL-level play, and the defending Vezina winner playing like the defending Vezina winner.

It sucks, but some games aren't worth getting bent out of shape over. This is one of them. In three days we have a home game against one of the worst teams in the league. Moving on.

The team is very inconsistent.. we know this but when you start winning, expectations are raised so when you fail to score in a rather important game its pretty alarming.

No the season isn't over, but as fans, you watch your team to be entertained and hopefully a win.. No fan goes, "we lost but I just feel honored to watch my team. Great effort guys!"

Poor losers in sports fandom go together like Anton and Legos

Honest question: do you expect them to win every game? Because I'm pretty sure some of you do.

Obviously not. But I expect them to compete every game. This one, they didn't compete. It's one (of many) that they let slip away. And frankly, they don't get many more mulligans before it seriously starts to hurt their playoff chances, if it hasn't already.

You guys do realize we heavily outshot them and carried play most of the game, right? We faced a very hot goalie. It happens. I'm with WTF here.

How do you win a few games in a row, and then lose a game? What team does nonsense like this? Only in Carolina.

And they did that despite being in the 2nd half of a back-to-back against a fresh home team and missing their 1st line center. I have no issue with their effort or compete level last night.

If they bring that effort against Calgary and Florida I think they have a good chance of picking up some points. ;)

Hopefully leader Staal will be back as well.

This game had loss written all over it folks. Like it or not. It was a back to back vs Columbus of all teams, they scored 6 goals last night to win 5 in a row, and Khudobin set a franchise record. I mean cmon be honest and tell me you really expected a W.

They've been a much better team of late but they're still a bubble team. This isn't the Penguins or Blackhawks, it's the Carolina Hurricanes.

Damn this team for winning five in a row! They should have lost them all. That way they would have been in an even deeper hole than the nonexistent one they are in now.

If that's the message you want to take from it, fine.

The fact of the matter is they've got five wins and five losses in their last 10 games. They've also got 47 points in 44 games. On paper, this is a good team. On the ice and in the standings? They're decidedly average, mostly due to their inexplicable ability to shoot themselves in the foot in various ways and their inability to string together wins without proceeding it and/or following it with a string of losses.
