Remember when the state fair road trip was supposedly the reason we couldn’t make the playoffs?
Turns out those teams just sucked. This group takes care of business.

Just a damn near flawless third period. I guess we could nitpick about penalties, but the way they shut that game down in the final 20 (or 30, really) was very impressive.

It's hard logging in here during the games lately but if it leads to results like tonight and in Montreal I'll gladly take the slowing down of HFBOARDS.

Don't really have much bad to say about that game. Guess it was a bummer to take two penalties close together for the five on three. That's about it. Great goaltending, D, and offense for the most part. This team is pretty pretty good.
Missed game. Family obligation. No problemo. Big win.

He's right, at even strength at least. But over all they generated .91 xG compared to our .81 xG in all situations. Taking score effects into account, this is still a very good performance from our squad in the third.

Good to win games you should win, which is what these last 3 were (not putting NYI in that category).
Not going to overreact as many teams are still undefeated, but the ability to beat these teams without a doubt speaks to a consistency we haven’t always had.

Canes have the offensive weapons to compete with anyone, good balance among the top 9, and Freddie has been great.
Early in the season with a lot of new faces, but the Canes need to significantly cut down on defensive breakdowns/ turnovers. It seemed more glaring last night. We’ve gotten away with it so far because of a combination of Freddie bailing us out and playing 4 teams that aren’t really high end in terms of scoring skill.
the next two games, that changes. Leafs are struggling, but Matthews, Nylander, and Taveras are high skill scorers. Then it’s Boston’s top line after that.
A good time to clean that up. Can’t ask for a better start though.

We dominated them in HD chances in the 1st, 5-1. They had us the rest of the game 6-2.
We had a higher xGF in the first period than we did the other two combined. We outscored them 2-0.
We had them handily in shots in the first, they had us the rest of the way.
Our PP only had an even Corsi during the 3rd period. That isn’t ideal. At the same time our PK was so dominant that their Corsi for on a 5v4 PP was 50% in the 2nd and 40% in the 3rd.
statistically a weird game. I’ll take it though
