Hockey gods are mad that we are trying to skim the roster to save Cap space. Much like the Devils after the Kovy penalty/cap recapture and they had to play a game a man short...only a matter of time where us (and a few other teams) get stuck playing man short to start a game to save a few cap dollars.
Is that a problem? I’d rather carry 19 than 22.

You can call someone up from Hartford in a pinch if it’s really needed.

Also, it’s comical that Pastrnak gets away with the shit on Lindgren after taking a completely clean hit. It wasn’t even a hard hit - Lindgren just caught Pastrnak off balance.
Yep. I saw that. Lindgren slowed-up and shoved 88 who fell on his butt.

We really are in a position that we need to bank some space, and at the rate things are going would turk not being able to play his fourth line bc we only have 11 forwards really be that bad of a thing for a couple games as opposed to running some of the garbage out there that we are right now.

A team can run 11 forwards to dress 7 d for whatever reason but they can't run 11 forwards early in the season to put them in a better spot to fill holes at the deadline? This roster will need significant bottom 6 improvements to compete this post season, regardless if that is from actual bottom 6 additions or top 6 additions that push some guys on the top two lines down to fortify the lineup.

Right now we easily need at least one vet d man, maybe 2, and at least 2 forward upgrades to this roster to be in a position to really make a run. We need cap space...

I can't wait to hear how this game somehow defines our season. This was the first game we got outshot by any significant margin.
In 12 games the Rangers have now faced just 5 teams that anyone would consider “playoff” probable. And have beaten only 2 of them. Basically a 4-3 record so far against middling to bad teams. Shot totals would not be the stat I’d be promoting at this moment.

Anyone have stats on how many goals trouba has been on for recently?
Just tonight - He was 0 GF, 3 GA. Worst on the team.

Team still refuses to score dirty goals. It wasn't a Strome issue, it's a team issue.
Nat Stat heat map, if I post it correctly, shows why that wasn’t in the cards tonite. But agree it’s an issue else wise this season.

I think Jones could be tremendous as an Adam Fox like player but not for this organization. He got exposed today for what he is- small and inexperienced. He’s not even physical close to being ready to play defense in the NHL. They need to address the number 6 defensemen as all of the current options are not good/ready to come along for what hopefully will be another long run in the playoffs.

Their coaching/structure/teamplay is tiers above ours.

It's not even close.
No- the Bruins are off to an incredible start but they will crash back down to earth. The rangers performance last night had nothing to do with coaching. They lost their top 2 defensemen and that forced guys like Jones to play during times he should not be on the ice.

If Kreider is going to go witness protection all season and our 3rd and 4th lines are basically non contributing slugs than this team will struggle and there is not much the coaching staff can do. I honestly believe there are significant trades coming because there is little doubt this management looks at this roster and sees is as not complete and therefore needing improvement.

This and our bottom 6 is full of plugs right now.

The whole team is overpassing looking for the perfect sequence to score.
Other than the Torts years, this has always been their primary mode of attack. It's nice to have flashy players, but you also need players who will score dirty goals.

Everything has turned into a giant secret with this coaching staff. Injury statuses, lineups, I mean his press conferences are him just spitting the same hot air every single day.

All the staff just hide and there is no accountability. They want to play hockey the old boys club way where the players coach themselves which turns into PP1 playing the entire 2 minutes every power play, everyone reaching for hope passes instead of shooting, and Reaves going out there in the final 6 minutes of the third period.

Oh and not playing hard or ever out working the other team
Laughable overreaction. Actually possibly the most absurd take yet. The coaches in the modern NHL are supposed to defend their players to the media. You expect him to react like he’s some high school coach and rip into the players each time they screw up- stop— it’s a pathetic longing for “what sport use to be.” Gallant has been successful every year with basically every team because he allows his players to be men and take responsibility for their own games. That’s just as valid a coaching style as “chewing the players a new one” each time they screw up.

When was the last time we won in regulation without scoring on Special Teams? Seriously?

I would like to know that and how many times we've done it during Gallants tenure.... if any.

It seems like if the PP isn't effective, we lose. Just like last season, our success hinges on our PP and Shesty. Nothing really has changed

the 3 biggest issues i see in terms of our play are we still don't have any real ability to turn a breakout into a scoring chance on the rush, we lose possession in the offensive with our forwards in really awful positions - either all 3 below the puck or if 1 is high hes stopped and nowhere near the puck, and we suck at winning pucks in the o zone and creating offense - basically we rarely pull the other team out of their structure, whenever someone gets the puck they just stand there and either throw it to the point or telegraph a pass that wouldn't have anyway.

on the mental side there's also what feels like a decade long issue of a refusal to shoot the puck or take it to the net hard when we do have a great look....its stunning....backdoor passes are never going to be there if teams dont even have to think about taking away the shot.

but back to the structural, i do think there is a lineup issue. as things stand i'm not sure the 4th and possibly 3rd line have had even scoring chance all year. we don't need a ton of production from them but they have to at least chip in occasionally. i've said it a few times already that i am convinced we need to add a spark plug to at least one of those lines - a super speedy player that plays fast all the time and is a buzz saw on the puck - same reason i wanted motte last year. not sure whats out there, or if there's any options at all in hfd, but to me that is the single biggest roster need. in the top 6, its 12 games in and they've been together for pretty much all of them. its time to start finding some chemistry with set concepts of moving up ice together. whether that means at times stretching someone at times, having a guy curl in behind a puck carrier challenging a dman with enough space to not overskate the puck if they lose it, etc. unlike last year, we're not getting pinned in our zone really at all for any extended time and for the most part we're getting clean breakouts, so we have the ability to look more coordinated than mites on ice. hopefully this game was a wakeup call playing a real team after struggling to tread water playing mostly tomato cans.

The Rangers also have a back-up goaltender who Gallant doesn't trust. 4th game in 6 nights. The back-up goalie should have gotten a game but Halak has struggled.

Kane is not solving the Rangers issues.

The Rangers have too many issues.
We will be solid. It’s a long season.
Also, I think it’s Igor who asked to play more games.

Honestly the Bruins were impressive last night. Let's just face that fact. We're also still in that game late if Trouba didn't just sit there and allow Coyle to score. The boys have work to do, but Boston is the cream of the crop right now for sure.

Welp, I've been reasonable enough so here's a hot one.

It's really not but it's gonna be taken that way, so here goes.

Schneider f***ing blows.

I know he's young, but can somebody just tell me where the cutoff point on that is? He's not improving. He's below average defensively and murders our offense like he's in a Cannibal Corpse song. He throws a big hit here and there and is a good fighter. I don't want Erik Gudbranson on this team.

Props for the Cannibal Corpse reference

Trocheck is a great player ....Foligno had a great game . Trouba and Kreider must have been bar hopping the previous night or else up all night branstorming on how they are going to lead us in the future . Lindgren should have the C ......I actually thought Schneider was very involved last night....and in doing so he will make mistakes....it happens to rookies in the learning process and we have to accept that .
