Carey Price or Connor Hellebuyck

I think it comes down to, you would say "oh shit they got Price in net", while Hellebuyck is very good, you don't have the same fear of him as of yet until he puts that together in the playoffs.

But, overall the difference isn't huge between them.

Still Price IMO, but Hellebuyck is absolutly in his tier, with Lundqvist and Vasilevsky
All of them were at one point the best goaltender in the World

Price had a better prime, Hellebuyck will have had a better career. He’s likely going to win his third Vezina this season, meaning he will be one Vezina win away from tying Brodeur.

Not all Vezina's are equal. Price played during the historical peak of NHL goaltending. He probably would have won more without injury. Hell Rask won in 13-14 with marginally better stats than Price, while his backup had the same stats as him and Budaj was essentially a free loss compared to Carey. Bruins made Chad Johnson look like a future starting goalie. 15-16 the same deal, if Price actually played the games Holtby's win was significantly below what Price was already doing in the 12 games he played where he was every bit as good as his Hart season.

There's a reason the NHLPA player poll voted Price the best goalie every single year from 2013-2020. Only HFBoards and Leafs fans think Price wasn't in the GOAT conversation. No one else except Crosby dominated player votes like that. SV% in a team stat and it's reflected in the fact that Price is the only winner of the last 20 years who wasn't on a contender to win it. Even Rinne only won one the year after they went to the finals with what was considered the best defense of the era. I guess I'll count Bob too, who won one in a lockout season with numbers he probably wouldn't have sustained and the second in a year where Columbus wasn't actually that bad. Price took a much lower scoring team to first in the division that year. Ironically, Bob isn't able to even come close to the same numbers when he plays for good teams.

But from an argument standpoint Bob has Price beat in career for two vezinas and a cup, yet no one would take Bob over Price to start a franchise or in a series. Hank only barely won a single Vezina too, and I don't think many would say Hellebuyck is better than him yet. Interestingly enough, noted lover of blocked shots John Tortorella coached one of each Bob and Lundqvist's vezinas. Hanks numbers slowly went down in each year after Torts was canned. Bob as well.

In the best best on tournament in history Price let in less than a goal a game. There was no tension whatsoever in the gold medal game because it was obvious scoring on Price wasn't going to happen.

Anyways, Price the goat goalie as an individual. He's the only one except Hasek who did everything possible with crap teams. Hasek had to jump to a contender to win a cup. Price would have won one in Montreal without Kreider, no doubt about it. Price has that clutch gene you can't scout or teach.

When Price was in his prime, teams were adjusting their game plan expecting it to be a 2-1 game. I remember Peter Deboer making a comment about it years ago. I believe Trotz and Babcock mentioned it as well. Hellebyuck, despite being an amazing goalie and a sure thing first ballot HOF has never had that kind of impact. Especially in the playoffs.
