Patrick Roy had multiple Selke and Norris winners/niminees as well as multiple HOFers on his first cup. The mid to late 80s clubs were the best defensive team in the league. He had protection - and scoring that Price could only dream of. Richer, Smith, Naslund, Lemieux…
The 93 team had Damphousse, Muller, Carbonneau up the middle. They had Bellows, Leclair, Lebeau… Night and day difference.
There is NO WAY any of those guys would’ve won multiple cups on Price’s teams, let alone one.
Of course. That’s my point.
If Rocket Richard is the line then the only other guy who’d make it is Doug Harvey.
I have nothing but love for Ken Dryden. He pulled off the greatest upset in NHL history. But he did it with Jean Beliveau.
Fair enough.
But consider this, Roy, Plante and Dryden each played with a minimum of four HOFers each. Price played with the end of Shea Weber.
Even if I accept prime Subban as a HOF quality player (and I do) It’s still not close to the same thing.
You don’t think Price would’ve won multiple cups behind two Norris winners, two Selke winners, a 50 goal scorer and 100 point getter as well as multiple nominees for the Selke? Imagine him on those defensive 80s clubs. Imagine him with Guy Lafleur and Robinson or Rocket Richard and Doug Harvey. That’s who those other guys had in front of them. Price had Desharnais as his first line center… Plante and Dryden had Jean Beliveau.
