There will be no playoffs if last night's effort was repeated enough. We owe the Avs a good whippin when they come to Raleigh. Im not getting indigestion from a loss vs the Cup champs in their house but 1-3 in our last 4 isn't a good look.
Agreed, and it's worth saying.

All around an awful game from the Canes; if not their worst game of the season (the Florida game is good competition), then it's close to it.

Aho in particular was bad. He made terrible passes, and fanned on shots.

Then there's the power play: 0 for 5. If we play Colorado (or Tampa or other top tier teams) in the playoffs as of now, we lose with the way our special teams have been so far this season alone (never mind the injuries). Which has been the case in the past.

I'm not convinced Patches will be enough added offensive fire power to go to the cup finals when we have another stinker game like this. Especially when TT has mostly looked like a 3rd liner at best and not a top forward of the past, and Jarvis appears to be having a sophomore slump.

Also concerning, unlike during the last regular season, we don't have a goalie that can steal games for us when the forwards are underperforming as Andersen did last year for us. Andersen does not seem like a Vezina tier goalie this year (before he got injured AGAIN).

Im more worried that our offseason acquisitions have been making us a worse team.

It seems our defense is struggling more than anything this year. Right now Slavin and Burns are not good defensively. Our only true shutdown pair is Skjei and Pesce. I think it may be a mistake trying to pair Slavin with so many bad defending players.

Also I think our goaltending is a big issue. Freddie looks like he did his last year in Toronto more than last year with us.

Maybe we should explore a trade for someone like Gibson?

Gibson isn’t good anymore. Hasn’t been for 3 seasons

If last night’s effort and result are repeated 67 times before the end of the season, this team will not make the playoffs. You can quote me on this.
The great this about this team and this forum, we can always count on the “world is ending” banter after each loss. Let’s just embrace it 😁

Goaltending hasn’t been what it was last year, but it is far from the biggest problem this team is dealing with right now. They’ve gotten markedly slower and haven’t done anything to address secondary scoring when the high profile players are slumping. The management has miscalculated, in my opinion, by prioritizing veterans who are slow over unknowns/youngsters who can skate and forecheck with energy. It makes us just a little behind the play on defensive assignments.

Even during the Bill Peters era, when we played physical and heavy (and yes, we had games where we did just that during the bad years), most times we would win. When we went back to a softer timid version of ourselves, our results were more predictable. This goes for then and now. We lost that bruising mentality that we had in key stretches last year and in 2020-21. For the "that's not our style of play" crowd, Im merely pointing out one of a few weaknesses. Boston and Tampa still exist and guess what... they are still pretty good. Washington will still batter you even with a depleted roster. Florida and Colorado are taking our lunch money. Need to rekindle some grit and punishment to the speed and skill.

I wasnt necessarily comparing the RBA era with the BP era. My point was that when we play physical and put opponents on the ice (even with those non-playoff teams) good things happened. Need to get that chip on our shoulder back.

I say get Morrow in here immediately after his NCAA season ends and pair him with Slavin. Burns to 3rd pair while playing both special teams units, Morrow PP2 QB. Koochie should be given a chance to take hold of the starting job in net even if Freddie and Raanta are healthy.

I hardly see Morrow being more than a black ace this season. He should play in Chicago once his season is over.

You don’t like to see these kinds of games, but their record is still 9-5-1. If it’s between a slump in the first half of the season or a slump in the second half (like last season), I’ll take the early season slump.
