Yes, I like this. I would also suggest maybe designating one of the Co-Captains to be Head Ambassador of Player Interests (HAPI) for actually taking the coaching decisions from the coach to the players.

Feel like that's giving too much authority to one individual. Perhaps a Committee of Player Interests which would meet jointly with the coaching staff, then present their decisions to the players for feedback and a preliminary vote, then present the results of that meeting at a Joint Session of the Coaches and Players Committees which would lay the groundwork for a final report to be presented at a future meeting.
