GDT: CAR-FLA part 7

Sometimes guys are just a better fit at the higher levels. Can't say you see it too often with goalies but it is what it is. A guy like Ned that's so reliant on his ability to move the puck, it kinda makes sense why he's having better fortune at the NHL level where he can move the puck to guys like Pesce, Hamilton, and Slavin, rather than guys like Robertson, Carrick, and Renouf.

Even so, though, Ned was a very good AHL goalie, particularly the last couple of seasons. He was one of those goalies with really high SV% above expectation, not dissimilar to Mrazek, that made their GAA somewhat misleading.

I will say - our success over Florida this year has made me really appreciate watching Barkov.

If they beat us sometimes I'd probably hate him, but since we always seem to win anyway... boy is that dude legit.

I came to this same conclusion 2-3 years ago.

Sucks for Barkov he's constantly getting dickteased with anywhere from horrible management to semi-competent management.

I'm sure he'll get his dos once he moves on from Florida.

My thoughts exactly. I would do horrible things to add someone his size and just half his skill on our team.

The new FO's clear display of actual competence in Florida certainly is making an argument for Huby and Barkov to stay there. IDK if it's too little, too late, but it's certainly a better situation now than it was.

Seriously though, Barkov has to be a top 10 guy in the league, and absolutely should be in the Hart conversation this year. He won't get the credit he's due but you take the turnaround that Florida has had this year and how the guy's playing, he absolutely should be finishing at worst top 5.

That's the thing. There is very little continuity for them despite having a pretty solid core around them more than once already. Who knows how the 2nd or 3rd time will turn out. Just seems to be no long term vision but we'll see the next 1-2 years.
