Marner declined to move to Carolina?
Marner declined to waive his NMC. Toronto had told him they still hoped to re-sign him.

Also, contrary to conventional thinking among fans, I don't think Dundon was about to give GMET the runway to flip Rantanen for another UFA without an extension in hand. I suspect that this was a double sign-and-trade.

If Marner is sold on going UFA (remember he's currently refusing to negotiate with TML either), this was a non-starter.

So in the HNIC interview with Rantanen, he just said he decided that he wanted to move on from Carolina LAST WEEK. Faaaaaaak that guy.
Well, at least we got his ass shipped off before the deadline with a decent return.

Decent moves on the table, and I would have loved to see some of them, but ya know what? Screw it. The big piece of business got done and we've got a room full of guys who are pissed off and want to prove themselves. There's something to that.

I'd like for them to come out and say that they are pissed.

I owe a lot of people on this board an online-apology. I thought some of you were just being haters, but it is so obvious that Rantanen was half-a**ing it here--if that. I just didn't want to see it.
I wasn't thrilled with his play, but I chalked it up to adjustment. I was also extremely skeptical of the trade talk.

We're all just a bunch of loudmouths spilling photons on the internet, and we're all usually some variety of wrong. It's all good.

Rants just got f***in rocked

I don't normally hate on players at all. People can choose where to play, and I get it. What Rantanen did to the Canes is NBA-type of diva behavior, where he was clearly not giving a s*** on the ice because he was unhappy with our team and our city. I hope we make this guy's next game against us a living nightmare.

I hope Nikishin gets the chance to line him up in our first matchup against them and knocks him into the next f***ing season.

Why would he move from Toronto to spend a few months in Carolina if he was dead set on testing free agency anyways doesn’t make sense for the player
He would be pretty damn stupid if he did and made the same mistake as Rantanen by possibly failing to perform under the Canes system and ruining his salary ask potential in the process, with the added bonus (malus?) that all the hindsight people would then laugh and laugh and laugh at him if that happened, again.

... and he took all the way until like 3 hours before the TDL to finally decide to sign with Dallas, preventing us from doing other business.

He might've surpassed Haula as the fanbase's most hated player. f*** everything about this diva.

Maybe. I don't actually hate Haula that much. The effort and production (to an extent) was always there with him even though the team's situation and personnel wasn't a fit with him. What you don't do when you don't like a certain team or their situation is to pout and float like a prima-donna. This is modern-day Keith Primeau kind of stuff. What a funny thing it will be if Stankoven becomes our modern-day Rod Brind'Amour.

I did until the last 2 games.. Those reeked of mailing it in.. (Sorry...Not sorry)
Up until then his effort seemed fine. at least to my uneducated eyes

The Haula hate is less about his play here, which was more than fine overall, though once he came back from injury he started to get pissy about playtime. It’s more the attitude once he was traded and his subsequent shenanigans in the playoffs against Nashville.

f*** you, Mikko

And you damn will know the team has seen this, hope they are pissed. This piece of shit actively f***ed with their livelihoods because he didn't want to be here. f*** him. Elbows up every time we play the Stars the next 8 years. Put a bounty on that motherf***ers head.
