Who?I think it's just better if we all move on from even thinking about the bum.

Marner declined to move to Carolina? Now Friedman saying we asked for Marner and he declined to move.
There goes that dreamNow Friedman saying we asked for Marner and he declined to move.
yeah ones that can carry himIf he was willing to sign in Edmonton, does that mean he had a list of players he wanted to play with, and Aho wasn't on it? Sorry Seabass
Why would he move from Toronto to spend a few months in Carolina if he was dead set on testing free agency anyways doesn’t make sense for the playerThere goes that dream
Seeing as the personal side of things is coming into play in these decisions, Marner and his wife are about to have a baby soon. Why would he move from Toronto to spend a few months in Carolina if he was dead set on testing free agency anyways doesn’t make sense for the player
Well we can try again July 1 there’s only a few teams that have more cap then we do but those teams aren’t in win now modeHonestly, I’m glad we at least tried for Marner. When I heard that Knies package being thrown around, all I could think was that Marner made so much more sense.
Marner is a bright lights guy. He is not coming here.I bet they do go after Marner, but I don’t see him coming here. Something tells me he’ll either stick around in TOR or he’s ending up a Ranger.
Ehlers seems like the prime “gettable” target in free agency, if he makes it there. Then there will likely some big trades at the draft using picks and prospects to bring in players with term.
Honestly, I don't regret us not doing that because (1) I don't think it would've made a difference, and (2), if they really needed that much convincing (like a political campaign level of sell) beyond what I assume the team already tried to sell him on with the team's pluses including playing with his supposed good friend Aho, then screw Rantanen and his "influencer" girlfriend. One final thought:
After reflection and leaving emotions on the table Tulsky/Canes did the best they could with a non motivated talent and with Necas probably leaving they got a decent return for him.
I didn’t know much about Mikko prior to the first trade but when I heard consulting with “my camp” after Stars trade, it told me a lot about him (that’s something Lebron would say). I also didn’t know much about his “influencer” friend (lol she only has 5k or so followers, that’s not much right?) but when I researched her today I saw that the locations that she has posted on her page are New York, Vail, Aspen, Paris, Hawaii. She has that kind of look too.
As a result, it told me everything on why she didn’t want Raleigh…. too small town for her. I gather Necas’ fiancé was similar re: wanting a bigger market but she didn’t appear to be as diva-ish as Mikko’s and maybe she could have been turned.
Further, since they knew the player, his GF and his camps/her needs , it’s clear to me that the Avs “played” the Canes by not allowing them to meet with/ get an agreement with Mikko before the trade. All is fair in love and war I guess but Canes were really naive’ in this deal in not knowing that and clearly the Avs in their way fleeced them
Beyond the failure to interact before the trade, post-trade the Canes should have compiled a PR campaign to market to the player and GF beyond just leaving to Aho/RBA. Ownership, GM and other Triangle market leaders would be pulled in. Even Lenovo could have been allied in to help “market” the GF (whenever I recruited someone to move for a job, I always ensured the personal element was addressed beyond job qualifications. Canes missed that big time.
Anyway, Mikko and his SO seem to be bright lights kind of people-the exact opposite of Aho and others on the team.
Ultimately beyond the fans, I feel bad for Burns and other vets on the team as their opportunity to win a cup is now extremely low.
That’s it….now it’s time to look forward.
Toronto shouldn’t have any problem signing Marner, but if negotiations sour and he wants to test FA well obviously be there and it’s good for the player to know and have in the back of his head that we’re interested. Unlike with Guentzel, the offer was there and on the table for Rantanen, and if Marner gets close enough to July 1 without a deal he will 100% have a huge offer in front of him from us.
Yeah, hopefully there's still a real possibility of Marner signing with us this summer, but maybe not.Why would he move from Toronto to spend a few months in Carolina if he was dead set on testing free agency anyways doesn’t make sense for the player

If we can somehow come out of UFA with Ehlers and Boeser, then use some of the picks Dallas sent for Dobson I'll feel a lot better about our short term picture out of the off-seasonI bet they do go after Marner, but I don’t see him coming here. Something tells me he’ll either stick around in TOR or he’s ending up a Ranger.

Honestly, I want nothing to do with Marner this off-season and am glad we didn't get him. For his price plus the price of a random 3rd liner you can have two lower tier but likely better fit first line wingers.Honestly, I don't regret us not doing that because (1) I don't think it would've made a difference, and (2), if they really needed that much convincing (like a political campaign level of sell) beyond what I assume the team already tried to sell him on with the team's pluses including playing with his supposed good friend Aho, then screw Rantanen and his "influencer" girlfriend.

I am another person that's glad Carolina at least tried to trade Rantanen for Marner because it made so much sense to do so. Imagine if we actually were able to make that trade and Marner extended with us?
Teams window for winning is over after last years playoff choke. Lost several pieces last summer and was stumbeling through this season.. it was time to blow it up once rants didnt wanna stay. Canes got young players comin in. Nikishin will be a stud, Morrow coming in too. Need a goalie and a goal scorer during free agency and fill in with the kids. Team will be back in contention quickly. 2 years tops....I dont understand this team anymore. They traded Necas who had cheap contract trough next season for Rantanen when they had no clue if Mikko is signing with them. Now they trade him(kinda must to do) to Dallas for Stankoven who is good player and some draft picks. Problem for me starts with draft picks. Carolina should have been win now mode. Not a team who is collecting draft picks. Why would they trade for Rantanen if they are not in win mode? And yes they can use these picks next summer to make some splash but it seems weird to me what they are doing.
I get back to back...Necas game then Rantanen on SportsnetWho’s staying up til 10 tonight to watch this Stars game? haha
I’d be pretty certain that both TOR and NYR are going to have 16 + mil in cap space going into next offseason on the chance 97 hits the open market. They may be able to work Marner into that space, but no chance Marner signs w/o a full no trade so idk.I bet they do go after Marner, but I don’t see him coming here. Something tells me he’ll either stick around in TOR or he’s ending up a Ranger.
