Confirmed with Link: [CAR/DAL] Rantanen to DAL, Stankoven, 1sts to CAR

We tried to sign him, we couldn't, we ended up with a return that we would've been more than happy with for the original package we sent to Colorado.

Good with this.
That is some major coping

The two trades are entirely separate; this is the equivalent of suggesting 'since i paid off my credit card, i can spend now!'

Acquiring top line talent is hard. There’s not enough to go around leaguewide.

Sometimes, other teams have better assets (Meier, Tkachuk). Sometimes, the player is only made available because he’s close to UFA (Rantanen). Sometimes, the player isn’t traded (2024 Pettersson).

Hopefully, the stars align at some point. I’m sure that they’ll continue to try.

Also, I was right in that most of y'all were a bit delusional with the stuff you were expecting in a trade. I'm just sorta surprised we didn't find a way to get Marchment in there, but the firsts could be good ammo.
Yeah not getting Marchmant is a head scratcher, and instead getting a skilled undersized kid who cannot score to save his life isn't any kind of fix for the team, its just adding more into the glut we already have.

Nope, not at all.

In January, I would've happily traded Necas, Drury 2nd, 3rd, 4th, for Hall, Stankoven, 1st, 1st, 3rd, 3rd. In the middle, we swung and missed at extending Rantanen. Oh well, better off than we were in January.

Not coping, just a proper view of asset management. Perhaps an IQ test of sorts, one it seems you've failed.

The Stars have aligned in Dallas.

I mean we just traded a top line player extended for 8 years, and the return we got was a price that many of us would be far too low if the roles were reversed.

I mean I get it, we needed to save face a bit with what happened, but damn, we just traded an elite player on an 8 year deal and only got back picks and one roster player. Its just not good enough.

Our asset management under Tulsky is not great so far. f***ed up the Guentzel signing, lost all the backup plans as FAs, overpaid for a Rantanen rental because you incorrectly thought we could extend him, and then got fleeced when trading him away with an 8 year extension.

Maybe we need an actual hockey person on the phones, and for Dundon to stay the f*** away for a while.
Someone like Don Waddell who is helping to turn around our division rival now?

LOL f*** me. Yeah that's exactly what we need on this roster, someone who generates a lot of chances but is absolutely abysmal at putting the puck into the net.
Live look at the boys after adding another Hobbit to the roster

*Points to the sign*

OUT: Necas, Drury, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

IN: Stankoven, Hall, 1st, 1st, 3rd, 3rd

If we made the above trade directly with Dallas everyone would be so psyched. Because of the Rantanen in the middle of it all everyone's freaking out for no reason.
Exclude Hall....he could have been acquired directly from Chicago.

It's really
Necas (24 g), Drury (7G) 2nd, 3rd, 4th for
Stankoven (9 goals) & futures of 2026 very late 1, 2027 very late 1 and two 3rds.

I'd never do that deal.

That is an amazing return . Stankoven is going to be great and cost controlled for a long Time . He is a rookie, but still he will contribute this year. Your team is the best at drafting . If you can get players like nikishin & artamonov in the 3rd round , those 2 1st rounders will either end up good player or picks will be traded.
