True. But clearly Rantanen is the better player in this trade, so the Avs go backwards. Maybe sign him and keep their Cup window open?
Ah yes and then have to barely fit in Makar and then your bottom 6 and third pairing are players from the ECHL. Not like Bednar is already playing our top players 25 minutes a game because the depth is bad. If Rantanen signs for $14M and Necas signs for $9-9.5M. Thats a savings of 2-3 bottom six depth players.

I get it. I love Rantanen. I’ll miss the hell out of him. But sometimes reality comes knocking.

Canes have been having to play Spencer Martin and Dustin Tokarski in goal for a lot of the year. Now that Andersen is back to tandem with Kochetkov, in addition to the Rants and Hall moves I would except some more upward mobility there.
We had to play Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen in net for half our season, don't talk to me about what goaltenders graced your nets lol. For a while you guys had 4 goalies better than anyone we had

I watched that Necas’ hat trick against us was against Georgiev. And immediately told my brother’ “oop, doesn’t count!”

I just watched it again. 2 things:

Holy f*** Georgiev is so bad on the first goal lol.

Necas is so talented. His skating is just incredible.
Georgiev makes statues look animated.

And Necas’ speed has been the main thing I’ve noticed in two games. He hasn’t scored yet but he’s highly noticeable, creates chances, and can at least keep up with Mack. Rantanen did well when we could establish zone presence and he could be part of a cycle or sit open for a ridiculous one timer. But I don’t know how many times we’ve seen him be the cause of an offsides play. Just a step behind MacKinnon. I don’t see that happening as much with Necas because he can also zone entry so well.

He's a puck possession demon. He really is diet MacKinnon as I've seen said a few times. Including a sweet shot

Necas have been excellent. Hopefully Rantanen will be too in the next games. I thought he was fine in the first Canes game, but probably he wasn't 100% mentally focused after the "shock" if thats really how he felt it went.

To be fair to Rantanen, that’s how he is. He’s not a wow player. He doesn’t flash skill. He’s just an exceptional finisher and has great power. Most games for the avs, we’d complain about how he looks lazy, but he’d finish with 3 points. He needs very few opportunities to score. He’s lethal with the right setup guy.

And that’s what the Canes need. Rantanen is not necessarily a play-driver (canes have too many) but a scorer. Carolina needs a guy who can score on the top line. I don’t really think the players in this trade fit RBA system at all, but if they have Jarvis with rantanen i think that could be dirty. Jarvis plays like Mark Stone.

I don't see RBA splitting up Rantanen-Aho 5o5, but I could be wrong. I am curious if a line with Svechnikov on the other wing can help elevate Svech a bit offensively. At one point, I thought he had the makings of a 40-50 goal, 90-100 point player but he hasn't been close to that.

What a nightmare scenario for Penguins fans.

Imagine being able to stock the cupboards by having veteran guys like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson as trade chips, but having a GM like Kyle Dubas to make those trades?

Yikes.
I imagine there would be a lot of fans who would be mad at the team for letting Crosby go. I dont see Lemieux being on board either.

If the Canes have too many play drivers feel free to send more to Denver.

You can have the Avs 13 million dollar fourth line in return. Mittelstadt Colton and Wood couldn't even drive a go kart. Much less play at the NHL level.

Yes, some fans would lose their minds. Think Avs fans with the Rantanen trade x100. As for Mario, he sold most of his share to Fenway a few years ago and isn't as dialed in these days, nor does he have an equity bat. The Pens hitching their wagon to Dubas indicates they knew this possibility was inevitable, which is why they hired a young, progressive, egomaniac for the tear-down job (I lived through Dubas in Toronto, ugh).

Kyle is brazen enough to put Sid on a plane to Colorado or anyplace else, regardless of the backlash. Unless Sid is threatening a bitter retirement if approached with a trade, Dubas is no doubt working the phones.

Wow…both teams swinging for the fences!

Can’t help but feel this hurts MacKinnon in the scoring race though.
It may, that’s definitely possible. But the flip side is that he hasn’t been playing too great for stretches this year and maybe some complacency set in with this team. This trade could ignite him too, and if he is mad, angry Mack can be a sight to behold. Pouty Mack is the one that concerns me.

I just think Svechnikov is in the same boat as Necas except he is not as speedy. He’s definitely a better play driver though but the goals have not came. The Hurricanes can’t score to save their life and I don’t really know the reason why and this includes high danger shots.

Hey you're maybe not gonna want to hear this but Spencer Martin's stats are worse than Georgiev's this year sooo....
Aves fans get upset when someone compares Hughes favorably to Makar.

Or Draisatl to MacGinnon.

But they're usually pretty calmly disagreeing.

But if you say Georgiev isn't the worst goaler in the league they will fight you.

Ditto. It's one of the things about the Canes that puzzle me... because they have the talent. Svechnikov's bread and butter coming out of junior was his goal-scoring. Early on, he showed flashes with the Michigan goal and some of his wicked one-timers. But, he seems to run hot and cold and either doesn't have the same confidence in his scoring mitts or he's being told to focus on other areas of his game... I don't get it.

Rantanen is a big body and duel threat weapon. That's why I wonder if he can free up some space for Svech and find him open to use his shot more?
