Johnny Gaudreau
Dougie Hamilton

Jeff Skinner
Justin Faulk

This is the basis of a fair hockey trade I think, as a fan of neither of team. Gaudreau is obviously an improvement over Skinner by leaps and bounds, and there's a smaller but still significant gap between Hamilton and Faulk. However, being that D are worth more than F, the jump from Skinner to Gaudreau is comparable in overall value.

I don't think Carolina does this without Calgary adding something else. The small upgrade over Skinner can't make up for losing Faulk.

Carolina would decline easily. Faulk is so important to their team, they would not give him AND Skinner for a small winger and an average defencemen. Also, the flames don't need Faulk. They already have Brodie and Girodano. I think both teams decline.

Gaudreau isn't a small upgrade over Skinner, unless you're saying that he is both small and an upgrade.

Faulk is still really good tho

Faulk is excellent. But there is 0 chance Calgary trades Gaudreau.

If we were moving Johnny AND Dougie... There are only 5-8 players I'd like to see coming back. Faulk is not one of them. And a light pat on the head and Skinner's gone for good too hah.

I think Gio and Brodie are better than faulk so I have no idea why we would trade our best forward for an upgrade at #3.

Easy pass

Wow... judging by your name, I'm guessing you're an Oilers fan? Based on that, I would've thought this proposal was terrible but you actually did quite an excellent job value wise. However, as a Flames fan, I would still have to pass.

I think Faulk is hugely underrated (almost as underrated as Brodie) and I think he's in the upper tier of elite #1 D-men. Because of this, I have no problem admitting as a Flames fan that he probably holds more trade value than Gaudreau, especially taking his amazing contract into consideration. However, Skinner is easily the worst of the 4 players and even though the gap between Faulk and Hamilton is huge, I think the gap between Skinner and Gaudreau is just a bit more. Plus, with Brodie's preference being to play the right side, acquiring Faulk would force us to either convert Brodie to the left side and separate him and Gio (which would be terrible because they make such an excellent duo) or to keep Brodie and Gio together and have Faulk replace Hamilton on the second pair, which is why I think this trade doesn't work that well for the Flames

I asked this in another thread but no one could give me an answer.

What am I missing about faulk? Anyone have a highlight reel showing why he's even a top 30 guy? 5 on 5 his offensive production is mediocre. Even his PP numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt. 15% shooting percent for defense is absurd.

I get that he's young and on a sweet contract but just don't see how he's top 30.

well the flames say no cuz of losing gaudreau. But faulk is miles ahead better than hamilton. Much better defensively and better offensively.

And the Hurricanes prob say no at the same time, cuz losing a true top 2 D isnt recommendable nor is losing a promising young player in skinner.

As for value, its pretty similar.

How are we supposed to argue he's top-30 via a highlight reel? Are we supposed to come up with the best 30 other highlight reels and argue that his is better than at least one of them?

Realistically, as a Flames fan two time zones over, how many times a year do you even watch him play a full game?

Don't really see the point, Johnny Hockey is better than Skinner, Faulk, Hamilton: and I'll assume each org likes his guys because bias, so no point really.

agreed hes big yet never gets physical. He cant skate too well and has terrible Defensive reads and does too many mistakes.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. While I agree Hamilton will never be as good as Faulk, you are completely wrong by saying he can't skate well. He's an excellent skater (especially for his size) and although he's not the best defensively, he's not "terrible" at reading plays and he doesn't make too many mistakes.
