Yeah but Pesce/Slavin are both in their prime now. And I hate to say it but Ahos contract is approaching.

We do have good young talent but we also have talent that's getting older and the miles are catching up.

Honestly, making it to round 2 was my hope. Given how strong the field was, and the way the Canes finished the year, I'm not surprised a 1st round exit is possible.

If we beat Boston, I would expect us to be favored in round 2.

Exorcise the Bruins who eliminated them 2 of the past 3 years.

While they had a great regular season, there are 8 great regular seasons in the East. It’s going to be a bloodbath every round. But at least showing they can get past Boston gives them hope even if they run out of gas vs Tampa again, or Florida for the first time.

They feel like they might be entering the Wild territory to me. Where the playoffs are a fun outing with little genuine belief in a good outcome. Unlike them however, my sense is that they can only play the it's still better than the dark ages card with the newer fans for so long. Too nice outside.

I don't understand the play like tonight's where you can take care of business and get a few days rest and play they way they did after the 1st. They need to figure out the sputtering at the end of the season. Being on fumes is no way to enter the playoffs.

I feel the same way. Getting eliminated in the 2nd round would be disappointing, but at least it wouldn't be a 1st round exit. I was expecting them to at least make the conference finals though.

I thought for a while that this looked like their best chance to win the cup so far with this core, but then they started to stink late in the season and I started to have doubts if they would even make the cup finals.

Really though, and especially at this point, I'll just accept them beating Boston with this team finally. FFS, this shouldn't be quite as difficult for the Canes, but they find a way.

Geez, expected conference/Cup finals? I think a lot of people underestimate how difficult it is to achieve that, even for top tier teams
